MNHQ messages on threads

Recently there was a message from MNHQ posted saying that there had been reports about the thread but everything seemed to be in order.

I had my doubts about the thread genuineness, and clearly so did other people, but there was nothing on the thread posted, as per guidelines. After this message was posted there were lots of Hmm faces at how disgraceful it was that people would think the OP would make the situation she was in up and that took away from the support that the thread was giving. Plus probably caused the OP unnecessary stress.

I can't help thinking that the message from MNHQ is in itself inflammatory and that it would be better for MNHQ to email the people who have concerns privately given that there was no troll hunting on the thread.

Where would they find the time to send all those emails though?

There are thousands of threads on MN, I'm not sure they could cope.

Better to post one message on the thread then any newcomers will see it is genuine and wont bombard HQ with reports.

Sometimes they do send mass emails when things are busy or lots of people have reported the same thread so it isn't something they haven't done before.

Hi Itsfab

Thanks for posting this. Sometimes, if a thread is generating a lot of reports and we know that the OP is genuine, we'll post on the thread saying this to stem the tide of reports.

However, we do see what you're saying about this inadvertently creating more doubt. We'll bear this in mind for the future and try to post more judiciously.
