Do you think it's time to start a sexuality shaming topic?

For all those who want us to shut up and not to help and laugh with others about sex?

Maybe we could keep the censorious ness and the comments of "what is wrong with people?"

"This is pathetic"

"Why do you need/want to talk about this?"

I've seen no "twats", either metaphorical, or literal, on the sex threads, just coherent, strong argument in favour of discussion and some great humour at times.

I notice that the anti-sex brigade didn't answer some of the rebuttals and counter questions to their protests on the sex threads. Perhaps they'd care to elaborate on a special "Sexuality shaming" thread? Then they can get together some really good insults going and hopefully make the "sex positive" posters among us shut up and creep back into the woodwork.

Has it got legs, do you think?

Oh sorry, x posted, I see you do mind.

Well, at least I'm not trying to find out who you are in rl - which is something you could possibly give a thought to.

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 17/05/2014 22:53

I've been hiding them all for months, today I had just had enough and thought a single topic would mean that I could hide them all at a stroke instead of having to go down active clicking hide, hide, hide, hide

DINT READ THEM!! You don't have to hide them, unless you hate seeing the word 'sex'. You don't have to open every thread you know

Pretty sure she's talking about the thread where people were working out when they were conceived and making joking remarks about it.

Which is clearly irrelevant, but that's how she's choosing to debate this issue.

Hmm
IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 17/05/2014 22:54

Britta's posts on this threads piqued my interest - I was unaware of her reputation as a sexpert - so I had a look at a couple of her past threads on sex. I'm sure she doesn't mind.

Don't you just love passive aggressive digs?

MrsMaturin · 17/05/2014 22:57

It doesn't matter whether you read them or not. The simple presence of the over sharing threads attracts the wankers and the creeps and it spreads across the site. Mumsnet is becoming increasingly pornified and there are more posters using the site who are happy to use women as sexual objects only. That's the problem - it's not about individual sexual practices, it's about the effect on the tenor of the whole site.

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 17/05/2014 22:58

Then I suggest in future to enjoy your MN experience don't open threads you know will offend you. It's really not that hard.

MrsM So given what your saying, that any sex thread has the potential to attract wankers (literally) does that mean that all threads discussing sex should be deleted immediately?

usuallysuspect · 17/05/2014 23:00

So you don't mind if those threads attract more and more creepy fuckers to MN?

Well some of us do mind.

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 17/05/2014 23:02

But MrsM that's the nature of the beast that is MN - nasty trolls come hand in hand with public forums. I've seen them on threads about abortion, pro-lifers join to stick the knife in and end up upsetting a lot of people. Despite this I don't think any topic should ever be off limits just in case there might be some keyboard warrior nobhead lurking looking to attack. If you take that viewpoint then fair enough, don't over share, but that shouldn't be a blanket rule for all users. I'd hate to think a small minority of trolls would ruin a very good platform for people to talk about their life, issues and interests - including sex.

gamerchick · 17/05/2014 23:03

funnyfoot you can think what i'm saying is as patronising as you want and yes we are all adults and if you had read my post properly instead of skimming it you would see all i'm saying that it doesn't hurt to use a bit of caution if somebody posts asking for it. Take a step back and ask yourself if you want to share what you're about to to the entire WWW.

It's very easy to feel comfortable and get carried away.. especially if you've had a few beers that night for eg.. some things can't be unsaid and even though YOU may be an old hand and have a handle on what you share, doesn't mean that the next poster is. You have to look out for people sometimes.

You maybe happy to give material to a one handed typist but I would hope you would look out for those who don't know that they are.

usuallysuspect · 17/05/2014 23:03

The troll threads should be deleted immediately yes, instead of everyone wetting themselves laughing because someone said fart.

Mintyy · 17/05/2014 23:04

Oh its all so simple isn't it? Don't like it ... don't read it.

Can you not just think a tiny bit beyond that and out to the wider issue, as described so articulately by many thoughtful posters on this thread?

The internet is 99% porn, trivia, and trolls.

Can't we generally try and be slightly different on Mumsnet? And if not why not?

MrsMaturin · 17/05/2014 23:05

No of course you should be able to mention sex without inviting deletion but threads that are only about inviting sexual stories for the dubious titillation of posters should be deleted yes. Threads like that doesn't make anybody's life easier, just fucks people up frankly.

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 17/05/2014 23:05

So you don't mind if those threads attract more and more creepy fuckers to MN?

Well some of us do mind.

Then don't you post about your sex life. It clearly bothers me less than you, so I shall continue to post what I feel comfortable with posting, until MN tells me I'm no longer allowed.

FunnyFoot · 17/05/2014 23:05

I agree troll threads should be deleted no matter which topic they are on however there are plenty of non troll sex threads which I get the feeling some folk like and want to have the platform on which to discuss their sex life. Should those go too?

FunnyFoot · 17/05/2014 23:08

MrsM it is MNHQ decision to delete a thread if it is a troll but I think a non troll should be allowed to start a thread asking people for their input regarding sex should they choose to.

MrsMaturin · 17/05/2014 23:10

ISchippy - don't be a fool. Unless you are seriously screwed up (or aspire to be) you do NOT want your sex life to be somebody else's wank fodder. That's what's happening though. Why do people think there is so much porn on the web? Because there's an appetite for it and right here on this site because of what it is, we're all perfect targets for madonna and whore fantasies.
I don't share the details of my sex life not because I'm not interested in sex or because I'm ashamed of it. I don't share it because it's MY sex life not yours and not anybody else's looking for a quick thrill.

FunnyFoot · 17/05/2014 23:11

gamer I didn't skim your post at all I read it. Hence my reply.

instead of everyone wetting themselves laughing because someone said fart.

Yes that's exactly what happened Hmm

The internet is 99% porn, trivia, and trolls.

Can't we generally try and be slightly different on Mumsnet? And if not why not?

Erm, no it's not. Mumsnet is different, there's endless topics, sex is just one of them.

FWIW I agree that any thread with a troll OP should of course be deleted, whatever it's about. But that's not the issue at hand, the issue is that several threads have had sneery posters who insult people over their talk of sex. The ejaculating thread I believe is still open and the insults thrown about in that thread are far far worse than the one which has been closed.

If it's a non-troll thread then yes I do believe its as simple as 'don't read'. Were grown ups, we know its a public and prolific website and we know what were getting ourselves into when we post. I'll never ever agree that sex such be an off-the-table topic.
