Postman Pat advert

Mobile site.
Annoying as is in small separate space at bottom of page so sits there all the time while you can scroll MN underneath it.
This is the only advert I have seen that does this (the others are embedded in the page IYSWIM) so I am hoping this is an aberration, not the way adverts are going to be presented from now on?

Only seen on active convos so far.

Hello

Yes, our ad team are trying something out on the mobile site (with the Postman Pat banners specifically). Users will see it a maximum of three times in a 24-hour period (or that's what's supposed to happen anyway...) so we're hoping it won't be too obtrusive.

MileEndRoad · 02/05/2014 11:51

Ad wouldn't be too obtrusive if it stayed still, but it scrolls part-way up the page then returns to the bottom, so making it impossible to read text. On iphone, early this morning. Had to give up and do some work.

Shallan · 02/05/2014 11:51

It's incredibly annoying. I closed down the browser when I saw it. It keeps jumping around on the screen, blocking what I'm trying to read.

I'm dyspraxic, with sensory processing difficulties, so for me (and a lot of people with aspergers, dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism - sensory processing problems are very common) this kind of advert is very difficult to cope with.

Please think again on this one!

RowanMumsnet · 02/05/2014 11:55

Thanks for the feedback, we will pass it on.

It's supposed to stay in one place - ie anchored to the bottom of the screen, even when you scroll, but not actually jump around on the page. Is it actually moving?

HappyHippyChick · 02/05/2014 11:58

I had this yesterday but it was jumping around like the other posters said.

BridgeOfWhys · 02/05/2014 12:04

As you scroll down the page it stays where it was then jumps down the page covering the writing as it goes.

MileEndRoad · 02/05/2014 12:05

Thank you, Rowan. Yes, definitely moving, and covering the writing as PP said.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/05/2014 12:18

Doesn't move for me but I has just popped up for the fifth time - that's more than 3 in 24 hrs...

Oh dear, that doesn't sound right. Thanks for the info - the MNHQer who's in charge of this is out having a birthday lunch Flowers but we will drag her back and get her to have a look ASAP

LadyStark · 02/05/2014 12:57

And I think it kills my battery when I am trying to read a long thread, I've left several threads because of it. I really don't think mobile video advertising is a good idea. Doesn't it use more data too? Must do to run a constant video.

ColetteTech · 02/05/2014 14:42

Hi all, can I just double check what devices you're using when the ad jumps? Hopefully this will help to narrow down the problem

Thanks

Rooble · 02/05/2014 14:46

It jumps around on an iPhone

NotAnotherPackedLunchBox · 02/05/2014 14:47

It's jumping on my samsung s4.
Horrible. On the positive side it drove me to get on with some work.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/05/2014 15:03

Not jumping on Nexus 4 Chrome Browser Android 4.4.2

OP posts:
BridgeOfWhys · 02/05/2014 15:24

It also fills up quite a large part of my iPhone screen!

Shallan · 02/05/2014 15:38

iPhone, and definitely jumping around! If it stayed at the bottom it would be less annoying, but I still don't like the video playing, it's very distracting.

MileEndRoad · 02/05/2014 16:11

Iphone 4, and jumping around.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/05/2014 17:29

Just saw it again :( The daily limit thing is obviously not working.

OP posts:
0blio · 02/05/2014 17:34

Very annoying and it jumps around on Samsung galaxy ace 2.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/05/2014 17:43

And again. Fed up with the gurning and waving now. I understand that MN needs advertising revenue, but do you have to have animated adverts? They are incredibly irritating on a small screen.

KateSMumsnet · 03/05/2014 16:42

Sorry again folks - we'll try to get this sorted asap.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/05/2014 20:25

Seems to have moved to the top of the page now - much better there :) (less intrusive)

Hi all,

We took this ad down and had a look at it over the Bank holiday and we have now added a X or close button to it so you can switch it off at will.

The ad shouldn't be jumping around, please do let us know if it does and any other feedback is always welcome.

We will be switching it back on shortly.
