Mobile app, strange things happening

I use the mobile app on my phone (Android, if that makes a difference).

If a thread has a lot of posts, I often find that as I'm reading down it, I only get what seems to be a random selection of posts. Eg when I open the thread it says there are 300 posts, but as I scroll down and read them, I can tell by the size of the wee scroll bar down the right hand side of the screen that there is no way there are 300 posts visible. Then I'll read a post and it will maybe refer to something the OP has said in a follow up post and I think 'I never saw her say that' so I scroll back up and there is no post except her opening one. Basically the whole discussion is disjointed. If I close the app down and go back in again, I might get different posts on the same thread

I have the app on my tablet and it doesn't happen there, only on my phone. (Although the tablet one is almost unusable due to the number of sticky posts you have to scroll through before you get to the active threads )

Does anyone else get that?

Yes, and it's always done it. Which is fine when you're catching up on a long thread you've been part of, but deeply annoying when it's in Classics and you miss the interesting bit in the middle

You get timestamped posts of eg 0944, 0945, 0945, 0946, 0947, 2033, 2034, 2035... And it feels like you get the first hundred and last fifty.

Can't wait for the new app. Mobile site is just so slow and unwieldy.

Hello - thanks for flagging this, I don't know whether we were aware of it before. Is this something that happens for everyone on the Android app?

well, the weird thing is that it doesn't happen on my tablet, as far as I can see, only on the phone. And I've only actually noticed it since changing my phone, so I'm relieved to see that someone else has the same problem.

This has only started to happened on my Android phone in the past few months, it also seemed to coincide with my inability to £ or �. I miss huge chunks of threads, sometimes I get a section of posts back after 5 mins but I usually don't bother with long threads anymore.

I'm not sure why the Euro sign seems to be so out of sync on MN.

Hmmm right. Very sorry about this.

As lots of you will know, we're in the process of building brand new apps for all platforms (which will be LOADS better than the existing apps), and are hardly making any fixes at all to the existing ones, because doing so is incredibly expensive and time-consuming.

So for now if the Android app is really annoying you, you might prefer to use the mobile site and hang on for the new app. (The mobile site will also be getting a big upgrade with lots of new functionality soon.)

We've flagged this particular issue up to Tech as it does sound pretty annoying and asked whether there's any chance of a fix; we'll let you know what they say.
