Are you in the app Fluffycloudland77? There is an issue with emoticons on there, but it should hopefully be fixed at some point in the near future!

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/04/2014 16:57

No, I'm using an ipad to use the desktop site. ??

And you're using the MN shortcuts, so the word wink between square brackets to get Wink and the word grin between square brackets to get Grin ?

NurseyWursey · 07/04/2014 17:04

Because Emoji weren't made for use on all websites so they don't support them and come up as the symbols you're getting.

NurseyWursey · 07/04/2014 17:04

That's assuming you're using the 'emoji' that are built into ipads/iphones, not Mumsnet emoticons

KateSMumsnet · 08/04/2014 17:38

Ah, NurseyWursey has hit upon the issue - are you using the apple emojis? I realise you did actually put that in your title - I just assumed you mean emotiocons, sorry!

The Mumsnet ones are far superior you know... Bear Wine Biscuit

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/04/2014 17:42

Apple ones. ??

RowanMumsnet · 09/04/2014 11:38

Aha, in that case Nursey's explanation applies we're afraid - we don't support the Apple emojis at the moment

RustyBear · 09/04/2014 11:51

You do support some of them.

This one, for example: ??

Also these (there may be others, I haven't tried all of them)

?????1?2?3?4?5?6?7?8?9?0?#??????????????????????????????????????????

At least they are visible in Preview on the iPad, let's have a try...

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 09/04/2014 11:55

Emojis... Anyone remember when they were just called smilies?

treaclesoda · 09/04/2014 11:57

Rusty , those just show up on my screen as a load of squares!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/04/2014 11:58

You should support them, or give us the kitten symbol we asked for ?.

Any plans to support apple emojis? I bet thousands of us login using iPads & iPhones.

Pleeeeaaaassse. I promise not to use the sparkly pink heart ones.

I can see them on the iPad in safari, and on the MacBook, though some of them look different on there. But on the app on the iPad it just gives the #code

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/04/2014 12:27

I can see them rusty

OP posts:
treaclesoda · 09/04/2014 12:40

rusty I was using a Samsung phone, so presumably that's why they didn't show up for me.

I'm on the laptop now and I can see the first one, but the others are just squares too.

RowanMumsnet · 09/04/2014 12:47

I can see some of yours Rusty, but not many (Windows, Chrome)

We'll ask Tech whether there are any plans to support them.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/04/2014 12:52

Thank you.

NurseyWursey · 09/04/2014 13:26

I think it would be very difficult to support emoji, we can see them on apple products because it's built in, but to build them into a website would be hard. The only one I know that it works on is facebook.

To be honest it'll be a bit much if we have them all...

RowanMumsnet · 10/04/2014 09:31

Hello

Right, apparently Emoji aren't exclusive to Apple, although Apple was one of the first platforms to fully support them (just something for the fact fans there).

We may think about supporting them at some stage, but it would be a big job and to be honest we've got an awful lot of things ahead of it in the Tech queue - so we're afraid it's not likely to be any time soon.
