One of the things we'll be improving on the new app (you can read about our plans for it http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/a2012519-Why-cant-you-upload-pictures-photos-in-Telly-Addicts?msgid=45532768#45532768) is the emoticons. For various lengthy tech reasons, the emoticons on the app don't work as they should, so sadly the shamrock won't be appearing. Once the new app launches, all the emoticons should be working as normal.

You can to your hearts content on Android but you have to do square brackets and type it's not a wee picture

Thanks Kate. While you're at it could you fix the pound sign so that it works if you are using an iphone and you don't get a spew of random letters, punctuation and numbers. It has been 'broken' for yonks ( over a year) and very strange gobbledygook messages can appear.
