"Add a Message

It is with great regret that we have to ask members to refrain from any further discussion of Gina Ford, her methods or her books on the site. To find out why click here. We'd be very grateful if members could report any mentions of Gina Ford using the "contact Mumsnet" facility (the little red exclamation mark to the right of each posting). Many thanks. MNHQ. "

Never seen it before.

Yep! Apologies MN - shouldn't have posted that but am so cross for you and all of us who have posted on GF in the past. Many of whom have come here asking for advice regarding GF's methods from others who have used them with excellent effect. A shame that they won't be able to do this now. And "sorry" as you don't need the extra work of deleting my posts.

aragon · 07/08/2006 08:52

Could she "do us" for sending a link to the editors of the various newspapers regarding this?

aragon · 07/08/2006 08:53

Am not now discussing "she who must not be named" but this action - that's okay isn't it?

bagpuss30 · 07/08/2006 08:55

Just wanted to add my support on this too. I feel totally shocked that one person could do so much damage to something valued by so many .

Even dh, who at the best of times tolerates my MN addiction, had a little look at the letter that MNHQ have posted (he is a lawyer). He reckons they are caught between a rock and a hard place here, which is a shame because he loves a good ruck and would have quite happily volunteered to pitch in and help.

I am sad for Carrie and Justine and their lack of maternity leave due to this too. I hope you two manage to get a bit of time off now that there is hopefully an end to this saga .

Jimjams2 · 07/08/2006 08:56

She can't do you for sending a link to the mumsnet statement of course not. I would assume it wouldn't be wise to accompany it with your own thoughts though, unless you egt them checked by a libel lawyer first of all! The libel law seems very complicated.

bin · 07/08/2006 08:56

Sorry have to post again, but very emotional at another thread that many are posting on at the moment. Maybe this self-important person and their solicitor should be sent a copy of the thread about Lucy as just a current example of just how important MN really is before they talk about stopping MN but then again do they deserve any further discussion. Sorry, just so and .

Whizzz · 07/08/2006 08:58

Blimey ! I have not entered into debates on that subject as I have never read the books but I just wanted to shout up in support of Mumsnet and any other such forum which provides support, advice, friendships & laughs to those that read & contribute.
3 cheers for MN & keep up the good work

Tinker · 07/08/2006 08:59

Really sad this has cut into your maternity leave, precious time taken away from you. Speechless about the rest of it.

Carmenere · 07/08/2006 09:02

What a sad day for freedom of speech, mumsnet and parents.
On a brighter note though, I am looking forward to the backlash in the press. I'm thinking, Womans Hour R4, Richard and Judy, The Wright Stuff, ALL the newspapers and every womans magazine that is on the shelves. The researchers and reporters for all these shows and publications don't need to be contacted as I can assure you that mumsnet is on their research radar, they are ALL looking for interesting stories, EVERY day. It is only a matter of time....

schneebly · 07/08/2006 09:05

This is just so . I am really sorry that people at MNHQ have missed out on precious time with their new babies because of this . I think mumsnet is a wonderful, diverse place where we all enjoy a healthy debate. If it wasn't for mumsnet I would still be in a deep depression and felt I had no-one to talk to. I think it is ridiculous that the very existence of such an amazing, supportive place be threatened because of this business.

RTKangaMummy · 07/08/2006 09:06

Mumsnet is deffo brill and WE are the EXPERTS on EVERYTHING

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 09:11

So many posts on here doing what MN have asked us not to do. Please, guys, don't mention what we have been asked not to mention, it's the least we can do. MN Towers are going to have enough on their hands without having to watch and delete all our posts

CorrieDale · 07/08/2006 09:11

bugger. bugger & yet more bugger.

aragon · 07/08/2006 09:13

Am off to do some work now. Sorry for my ranting MN - was just so cross on your behalf. Didn't realise that you were both on maternity leave at present so sorry I've added to your "deletion" workload. Won't discuss this any further I promise.

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 09:14

It's hard not to get carried away. We all feel the same.

LieselVonTrapp · 07/08/2006 09:29

So much for freedom of speech.

Chandra · 07/08/2006 09:30

Thinking of ways to help, at least with the cost of litigation would be for all of us to subscribe. Even if you give just £1 it's better than nothing and could do a huge difference.

Now, problem is... I believe my subscription is overdue and I can't find the link to renew it.

CheesyFeet · 07/08/2006 09:31

FFS

MrsJohnCusack · 07/08/2006 09:36

chandra subscriptions don't exist anymore - they were replaced by the £5 to CAT for a year

wannaBe1974 · 07/08/2006 09:36

there are ways we could help, not by giving money, not by giving support, but we could start up threads on here promoting every childcare book by every other author but the one we aren't allowed to mention. By promoting the alternatives, we can try to steer people in alternative directions without having to mention the name of the person we are not allowed to name. MN have agreed that we will not discuss this person specifically, so imo what we should do is discuss all the competitors, we're not doing anything wrong, after all we're not allowed to promote either. And I am writing to the bbc as we speak...

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/08/2006 09:40

wow - lost for words really

JessaJam · 07/08/2006 09:44

[emoticon to express extreme irritation and disgust]

katierocket · 07/08/2006 09:45

Just wanted to say how sad I find this whole matter. Mumsnet have acted and continute to act, with dignity and honour. Unbelievable really. You have our support Justine et al.

Chandra · 07/08/2006 09:45

Can't we bring subscriptions back?

Anyways, is there any possibility of hosting the site in the US, where laws do not make the host responsible for the opinions of the posters?

katierocket · 07/08/2006 09:45

and I agree wholeheartedly with franny - they've asked us not to mention it - so don't!
