Are you allowed to ask about deleted threads?

I posted on two threads earlier on today, and have come back to find them both deleted. One was about trolling- and the deletion message was about not tolerating trolling. Does that mean that talking about trolling isn't allowed- or did someone come and troll on the thread? The other was about the covert and overt racism around the reposting and response to Mikaeel's death. The message "We don't tolerate racism". Once again- were there racist posts? Or was the whole subject declared unacceptable?

Or am I not allowed to ask these questions- in which case, I assume this thread will be deleted too?

I was going to ask the second myself, was waiting til this morning to do it though and curlew beat me to it. It wasnt racist imo, and saying it was deleted for racism is misrepresenting the people who agreed with the OP. Which all the people who were piling in to shout at her can now see verified by mnhq. Which is especially weird, as hq had already commented on the thread and allowed it to stand?

Didnt see the first one.

Me, on another thread-
(As its relevant im putting it here too

I was getting quite worked up about it last night so had to come off mn - if I'd written a post in site stuff then, it would have been nowhere near as reasonable as yours! I understand if mn thought it had to go because it isnt appropriate given recent developments, but I'm actually quite upset that by saying yanbu and agreeing with the op, ive been branded racist!

I've reported, hoping to get a response from MNHQ.

Hi Curlew, of course you're allowed to ask the questions - we have different moderators on at different times and for that reason we haven't got a definitive answer for you. We will flag this up to the rest of the community team though, who'll be in the office tomorrow.

curlew · 19/01/2014 22:09

Thank you for responding so quickly- especially on a Sunay night. I await developments with interest!

Hello there

Thanks for raising this. You're right - our deletion message was a bit of an unhelpful fudge. We don't think it's racist to have a discussion about this sort of thing in principle, but we did think that this particular thread at that particular time was in poor taste, and was upsetting an awful lot of people (we got a lot of reports about it).

Sincere apologies to those who felt branded racist for agreeing with the OP - that wasn't what we meant to communicate at all.

We've edited the deletion message now (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1970128-AIBU-to-think-if-this-boy-was-white)

I am Confused now.

Is this as A thread about a thread is?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 20/01/2014 14:20

Thanks rowan :)

curlew · 20/01/2014 15:09

Bit depressing really. That a group of people who obviously didn't understand the thread was about could get it deleted and debate shut down. And potentially leave others labelled racist, when they were in fact absolutely the opposite.

But hey ho.

Yep. A large chunk of my family are indian, (didnt bring that up after being called racist, sounds a bit like 'i cant be racist, i have a black friend') so i'm there worrying about if anything went wrong, them not getting the attention a white child would get, and getting called racist for it Hmm

Should be drawn to anyone reading this' attention that the thread was started while MK was still missing, when there was less news coverage.

As curlew said though, hey ho.
