What happens when you report a post?

I'm sure this has been asked 1000 times, but I can't find it so apologies for the probably boring question.

What happens when a post is reported and deleted? Does the poster get a message telling them why their post was deleted? And do you keep a tally of how many posts have been deleted from a particular poster?

I recently made my first 'report post' (for a personal attack - someone called me a cunt totally unnecessarily) and it was deleted. But now I almost regret reporting it, because it might have been better to allow the post to remain for everyone else to see what a cunt nasty person the poster was. If their post is deleted, then they almost get away with it...

However, if the poster got a telling off and a mark on their card, then it was worth it.

So, as I'm obviously angelic and have never had any of my own posts reported - can I ask are there any feisty buggers who break the rules out there who can tell me how it works?

Hello there

This is a how-long-is-a-piece of string question really.

As people have said, we don't generally mail people to say that their post has been deleted.

BUT if a poster keeps having posts reported, or if we think an individual post is really OTT and nasty, we will contact the poster to say 'erm, could you have a think about your tone please? ersonal attacks [or whatever the infraction was] are against our Guidelines'.

If we've had to send more than one or two of these sorts of emails to the same poster, we may well suspend their ability to post while we talk to them about what's going on.

In some cases the suspension becomes permanent if we don't think the poster is willing to abide by the Guidelines.

In the case of the post you reported Cosy, as it happens, further action was taken. Hope that means you'll carry on reporting? Please? It's the only way we get to see that people are breaking the rules (if they are).
