Search - am I doing it wrong

Is there anyway of narrowing down the search criteria? There must be, I just can't find it.... please help! :)

Hi, Sarf.

Are you using the advanced search? It's up at the top on the right and is purple. You can use a specific date and can type in a keyword or the name of a poster. This can narrow things down a fair bit.
