Hi MNHQ,

Do we really have to have an image of two disembodied women's torsos in underwear to illustrate this blog? At first I thought my ad-blocker was playing up and it was one of those scammy 'one old trick' ads. I hate images like this - I think they're objectifying and dehumanising. I know they're everywhere (and are apparently compulsory whenever they talk about fat people on TV) but I expected better of MN.

Having read the blog post, which is about Emma Burnell's fear of losing her personality when she loses weight, I'm wondering whether the picture is supposed to be ironic

Really sorry that you've found the image upsetting, and thanks for flagging.

We were hoping that the image would convey Emma's worry that she might lose something of 'herself' after weight loss surgery - we read the image as depicting two 'shapes' of the same person. On reflection, though, we do see that it could be taken rather differently - and we'll bear this in mind when choosing images in the future.

I see today's image is two people without heads too. Still at least they have their cothes on
