Anyone work for British gas.Obviously you might know the answer if you don't

I've just broken my meter reading cherry,I've put readings in land they were way lower than estimated readings for back in September.Both gas and electric meaning according to the computer I've used a ton of gas/electric as its gone round the clock so to speak.Will someone notice and respond or will my direct debits be increased to a trillion pounds a month to compensate? Wait time on help desk 30 mins mumsnet wisdom is bound to be quicker!

I submitted online and had used lots less. I recieved an email explaining that the figures I had submitted were less than expected and asking me to input the figures again online, which I did. Bill was altered to show less, they didnt assume I had gone round the clock, so to speak.

But you'll likely get an Oh-So-Smiling meter reader round soon to give it an eyeball.

I doubt a man will come one has nt been since 2011 ! I expect they will accuse me of rigging it somehow!

Can you take a decent quality, digital photo, clearly showing the meter serial number, & read/s. Make sure you show all reads, if it's a multi phase meter (if you have different rates for day, night, weekends etc.) Ring them & explain your issue & say you've taken a photo, & ask for an email address to send it to.

I don't work for a utility company, but in my job I basically spend all day paying, checking, & disputing utility bills. (I work in property management.)

You may still get a meter reader round, but if you do the photo you're likely to get it sorted more quickly - as you've provided proof.
