Hello,

We've been building a feature to let Mumsnetters receive email alerts when a thread they are watching gets a new post and we'd really like you to try it out and let us know what you think.

You can turn it on by visiting your customise talk page.
You can also check which email address we have for you on your account page.

Right now the way it works is; if you're not actively browsing threads then you'll get an email to let you know when someone posts to a thread you're watching. You'll only get one email for each thread regardless of how many people post. It's just a way of letting you know there's been some activity. If you go and visit the thread again that'll be reset and you'll be able to receive another email alert.

This is a completely optional opt-in opt-out feature. You can change your mind at any time by going to customise talk.

It's our first little prototype so any bugs or quirks you find or suggestions you have please share.

Thank you!

Hi Merry, hmm that does sound very tedious! Do you mind posting about it in site stuff and giving details like your browser you're using so we'll can get our clever tech types to advise?

JessicaMumsnet · 19/11/2013 13:10

Hello Golddigger yes don't worry it is turned off by default for existing users. If it's not for you that's fine - do nothing and you'll receive nothing!

JessicaMumsnet · 19/11/2013 13:14

Ah ha! Thanks very much for the heads up Miranda we'll get it sorted for mobile asap.

JessicaMumsnet · 19/11/2013 13:17

Thank you DorisShutt, that's a good point and useful feedback.

JessicaMumsnet · 19/11/2013 14:41

Hi Revels it should work in all Mumsnet views including classic, we'll move it out of that section in customise talk - that's misleading!
Feel free to try it out without having to change... Wink

Shamelessly bumping so other people will try out Tech's shiny new toy Smile

JessicaMumsnet · 21/11/2013 17:47

It's only watched threads at present but we're interested in whether anyone thinks they'd use it for anything else - threads I started/am on etc.

If it were customisable, what other things would you like to see?

(Sorry we are working on releasing to mobile as soon as possible...)

JessicaMumsnet · 26/11/2013 16:04

Thanks all, it's much appreciated. Thanks

Okay so Threads I'm on/started is definitely on the wishlist. Plus maybe customise by thread.

It'll work for mobile too but for now as we're just trying it out it needs to be turned on via the main site.

Hi Miranda
Sorry, we made some changes yesterday and think we might have broken it a tiny bit. We're fixing it now. Blush

Hi midweekGandT,
hmmm yes that error definitely sounds wrong. We'll take a look for you.
Can I just confirm this error appeared when you tried to watch a thread that you'd started?
How did you try to add the thread to your watch list? Was it from within the thread itself?
Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 01/02/2014 15:30

Thank you midweekGandT that's really helpful. We'll investigate after the weekend.
Beanymonster, interesting thoughts... We'll have a think about what might be possible. Thanks!

JessicaMumsnet · 18/02/2014 09:19

Hi midweekGandT,

Apologies for the disruption, we had a server problem on Friday and that's knocked a few things out. We'll be working over the course of this week to get everything up and running again.

Thanks for flagging
