Username question

olidusUrsus · 19/11/2013 12:57

Can more than one person be registered with the same username if they use capital letters in different places? For example, if I searched for "ilovefrogs" and got results for both "ilovefrogs" and "iloveFrogs", they'd be different posters, right? So is there a way to search for only "ilovefrogs"? Tedious example

Cheers.

I think it counts the same with or without - because when I sign into the app with my other names I don't bother with the capitals but it still works.

olidusUrsus · 19/11/2013 20:27

That's what I thought too tweety, so I'm wondering why I see both ilovefrogs and iloveFrogs.

Surely it just depends which they were using when they posted?

I suspect chaos made them capitalise their name

MirandaWest · 19/11/2013 20:31

I wonder what would happen if I signed out and then signed in again as mirandawest. Presume it would post as mirandawest

Testing

Didn't like it like that Grin

You can have names that appear identical but use capitals or numbers in place of some letters so actually aren't.

I was QueenOfFlamingEverything, then flounced and deregged, then rejoined but had lost my name so am now Queen0fFlamingEverything.

Capitals don't make any difference though. Maybe you're seeing the same poster but they signed in with different capitals at different times? If I signed out now and then signed in with my username capitalised, I'd still come up in searches but some of my posts would be under a capitalised name and some wouldn't. If that makes sense?

MirandaWest · 19/11/2013 20:33

Did at least manage to cheat and use the use different nickname button :)

Ah ok, I see what you mean. Ty Miranda for the experiment! I think it's odd though - surely if capital letters weren't recognised in a username (meaning you couldn't duplicate someone's name by chucking in a capital letter somewhere) and I signed in as OlidusUrsus one day, MN would automatically correct it to olidusUrsus (which is what I wrote when I registered and so is on their database). Weird.

So the hypothetical ilovefrogs and iloveFrogs are the same person?

Yes, we think so

If you capitalise and you weren't capitalised when you start the thread, you no longer get highlighted as OP. But you can't capitalise someone else's NN and steal it, I don't think?
