Acronyms just happen man, they're free flowing ever expanding things. Science can't explain them.

We do have a list of commonly used MN acronyms and abbreviations, but these are just there as a guide really. You guys are free to use whatever you like (providing the don't break the guidelines, natch) and if they catch on, they may become MN canon.

As an aside, it's fascinating how MN has it's own sociolect, as you could write a sentence like

"The OP wrote an AIBU about her DH being a PITA, but she admitted she was BU as she's nervous because she's about to POAS", and it would be near unintelligible to an outsider, but clear as anything to a MNer

And just to be boring, fascinating sociolect or no, a post saying "OP ODFOD FISH" would be deleted as a personal attack.
