hide a poster option.

So many other changes have happened lately to make MN better.

That would make MN super better!

Tee I do know what you mean, but wouldn't it be infuriating to see the replies made to her/his comments in the rest of the thread?

I mean, you know when someone's had a post deleted, I sometimes spend ages wondering what they actually said, trying to work it out from the references in subsequent posts from people who have seen the remark. Thus distracting me from the duty of reading through and trying to come up with either an intelligent considered reply or a witty remark depending on what sort of thread it was.

Tee2072 · 14/09/2013 14:44

No. Not infuriating at all. At other forums I have posted on that have this, it replaces the person's post with 'You have hidden this person's posts.' So you can see they wrote something, just not what they wrote.

It works very well.

I agree, I have seen this work well in other forums.

DameDeepRedBetty · 14/09/2013 14:51

Oh I see - yes that would prepare you mentally better I suppose.

There is a small piece of me wondering who the poster is that you particularly want to hide Grin

If you pm me I promise not to tell...

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 14/09/2013 14:52

I don't want this as I fear I will be hidden by everyone and will end up with no one replying. Its hard as it Grin

lunar1 · 14/09/2013 14:55

I really wanted this when I first joined, there was a poster who make me feel the same as when someone drags nails on the chalk board.

Tee2072 · 14/09/2013 14:55

There's more than one Dame. Grin

I was always against hide poster, now I want it more than I want a new laptop. There are very few posters who irritate me enough to never want to see their posts, but it would help so much if I could just hide the ones who do. And I'm sure some posters would love to hide me too.

Mintyy · 14/09/2013 15:19

I am in favour of this for those who want it. It would be entirely optional after all! I don't think I could ever use it effectively ... curiosity would always get the better of me and I'd just have to know what my nemesis was saying.

But, yes, why not have it for those who could make us of it, eh HQ?

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/09/2013 15:21

I would like to be able to colour specific posters (as we can with OP on a thread). That way, I could just skip past their posts. Red maybe? Or black.

sweetiepie1979 · 14/09/2013 15:37

Yes Id choose that as an option there is a poster who is so agro at me all the time whatever I say she comes back fighting its so frustrating and makes me want to scream.

SweetSeraphim · 17/09/2013 21:50

Ooooh, I would LOVE this option! Although there would have to be an option to un-hide them again for a bit when I got too nosey Grin

you have chosen to ignore this users posts

Hello

I'm afraid the answer is the same as it has always been - here is Justine's response from last October's webchat

"Same old answer really - we think there's a danger of mucho confusion - missing posts etc. We are a discussion site that allows differing and unpopular opinions so it just doesn't feel very Mumsnet."

Of course there's a difference between someone who you just find annoying (which we can't do much about) and someone who you think is deliberately posting to inflame, or who you think is targetting you deliberately. Please flag anything like this up to us - we're always happy to take a look.
