I'd be reluctant to take up someone else's old name. Some MNers have long memories and if an 'old/unused' name were being used by someone completely different then it could be confusing, I think?

I'm sure it wouldn't take as much time the second time around. I always find that it takes far longer to do things the first time around because I haven't come up with a good system.

Or maybe rather than doing it all at the same time again there could be a policy of if there's a name you want that was used a couple of times ages ago then you can email Mumsnet towers and ask nicely for it.
