Help MN won't let me post!

TheSmallPrint · 11/09/2013 09:59

Since all the Changes to fonts etc. yesterday, I am unable to get a post on a thread. It will let me read threads, write a post but nothing happens when I press 'post message'.

It works from my mobile but not my PC. Anyone know how to fix this??

Sorry about this

Can you tell us:

a) Your operating system on your PC (Windows?) and your browser (Internet Explorer? Which version if possible?)
and
b) exactly what happens when you try to post?

Thanks

inneedofrain · 11/09/2013 13:23

Rowan, sorry Im having the same problem.

I can post on my ipod, or like now using firefox but if I am internet explorer (9 I think) NO.

flowery · 11/09/2013 13:25

I have the same thing. IE 10 I think it is. Post (and preview) buttons just don't do anything.

Have switched to Safari for the time being, where it's working fine. Mobile and Ipad also fine.

inneedofrain · 11/09/2013 13:27

Oh i´ve just checked its definately Internet explorer 9 that I´m using.

RowanMumsnet · 11/09/2013 13:30

Thanks all

This does seem to be an Internet Explorer-related problem. If you could bear to download and use Chrome or Firefox (or any other browser) for now while we take a look, you'll hopefully find that you can post as normal.

ninilegsintheair · 11/09/2013 13:36

Hi Rowan, sorry figured its easier to come to this topic rather than the other one so you dont need to look in two places about the same issue. What happens for me us that when you click the post button, nothing happens, not even in the loading bar.

Cant switch to another browser as Im on my work comp so will just wait it out Sad

TheSmallPrint · 11/09/2013 13:38

Hi yes I emailed too, it seems to be related to IE as Google chrome is letting me post.

I have been unable to post messages since yesterday at home, OK at work ? different version of internet explorer. presume a mumsnet problem as we haven't updated the computer this week.

cumfy · 11/09/2013 14:28

Can't post here either (Opera 11 Windows 7.)Sad

I suspect it may be a javascript problem:

About 3-5 weeks ago I lost the ability to preview, and noticed the "preview" button was a smaller font to the "post" button.

Now both the buttons have a smaller font (when clicked), and neither work.

I had (and still have) switched javascript off in my browser (for MN only) because it appeared that in order to fix a "save .js file ?" type dialog popping up sporadically you had changed from executing javascript internally to externally.
This was causing all MN pages to hang; presumably waiting for the JS to execute externally.

Simply turning off javascript worked.

Except now, the javascript controlling the post/preview buttons has been changed and now won't work without js enabled.

Sorry to be blunt but I feel this may be a case of if it isn't really broke don't fix it; the "save .js file" thing, whilst anomalous, really wasn't causing any ultimate problem. (Or did you think this was a likely cause of server slow-down ?)

It's not clear what "problem" the post/preview buttons were causing.
Seriously they were fine as they were.

And now there is a problem.Sad

flowery · 11/09/2013 14:31

Cumfy most of your post went completely over my head Grin [technophobe] but yes I also lost preview a while back.

RowanMumsnet · 11/09/2013 17:04

Right cumfy, we're going to have to get rather stern with you we're afraid (are you ready?)

Tech says: 'We can't support users who have javascript turned off. The site just won't function correctly without it. We also can't really support Opera. The saving of the .js file sounds like malware on the computer, or possibly from the other week when one of the adverts being served up was incorrectly configured, but that is resolved now. If they are still being asked to download a .js file it's a problem on their pc.'

Sorry. Cake

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 11/09/2013 17:09

Yay! It's not just me - I wonder how many other users are viewing this thread and not being able to post to add themselves Grin.

I can't post using IE (9 I think) - only found that out after writing a long post, so have swopped over to firefox, which working fine.

2rebecca · 11/09/2013 18:08

I was in that position this morning at home when I came to this forum to see if others had the same problem. looks like I won't be posting at home as mumsnet sound disinclined to sort the problem. I could do with spending less time on the site anyway.

TheSmallPrint · 11/09/2013 18:20

Rowan the rest of us aren't being as technical as cumfy Grin I certainly am not doing anything to do with javascript nor receiving any messages about downloading anything.

Can you politely tell Tech to get a shove on please Wink.

Another one affected here. At home I have IE 10 and I posted this. But at work it is IE 8 (or possibly 9) and no luck. But I have no option over what I have installed at work so it will be a bit of a downer if I can't post from there anymore (Lunch times only obviously Grin)

5Foot5 · 11/09/2013 19:02

Oh and I am pretty sure I haven't done anything about disabling javascript. Where would I look to check this?

flowery · 11/09/2013 19:35

I couldn't disable javascript with a gun to my head...!

ninilegsintheair · 12/09/2013 12:28

So....any update on if and when this is going to be fixed?

JulieMumsnet · 12/09/2013 12:59

Afternoon.

We've started a thread in site stuff so feel free to pop along. If you could let us know what operating systems you're using, what browser and which version this would help.

TheSmallPrint · 12/09/2013 19:04

But I already started a thread and we told you what the operating systems were. Confused

TheSmallPrint · 13/09/2013 09:39
