What's with all the sporadic downtime MN?

I'm regularly finding that the site is going down (normally when I've written a long response of course, but also sometimes when I'm switching between threads). Its been particularly bad for about 10 days?

And its not just me as I saw a comment on another thread that suggested at least 2 other people were also experiencing it.

No idea but it's very annoying. Periods of a minute or more are understandable but it seems to me MN goes down for about 5 seconds every hour or so - which implies something is going on

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 14:32

Have you worked out if its a certain time every hour SPB? () - I've not noticed anything consistent, but it certainly is very annoying and quite frustrating.

No not at all. I'm not sure it's every hour but it's about that regularity iyswim. I certainly notice it two or three times each day.

Hi, Sorry this has been a pain. We're doing some behind-the-scenes changes (ironically to make things more reliable) but that means as we put new stuff in we periodically have to shut bits down and our capacity to show pages is affected. We're trying to keep this to a minimum, and appreciate your bearing with us. It'll all be worth it in the end, honest.

On the upside, we've completed one phase of the changes, and probably won't be doing any other planned changes until next week.

Thanks again for your patience.

Tbh its just nice to know that it is happening for a reason and you are involved kn it. Thanks

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 15:25

Thanks Tech - I agree, its nice to know that its happening for a purpose and not just all flaking to bits or because you've gone on your summer jollies. Brew

Tech keeps forgetting to feed the hamster - he just won't admit it though Grin

Seriously, though, I've been noticing it for a while.
