Systweak advert. Is it legit?

I've googled it and there are a LOT of complaints about this company on scam reporting sites etc.

I am confused as to whether it's systweak themselves or something pretending to be them that is the problem - however I think ads that encourage people to click on a button like that are generally dodgy ime.

Could you check please MN?

Thanks Smile

Where did you see it Rooners? Can you remember?

Rooners · 13/08/2013 16:17

It's on the right hand side on almost every thread including this one. >>>

It's a square blue ad saying 'clean up your PC' and an 'Okay' radio button.

At least it doesn't jiggle Grin

OK. We'll try to find it.

Thankyou Helen.

You may be needing these.

I don't see it. Are you sure it's no a virus on your computer? Can you do a screen shot?

Rooners · 13/08/2013 16:59

If I knew how, I'd do a screen shot. It's on a lot of pages Tee.

Hopefully not a virus...!?

We've blocked anything we can see that's to do with this, Rooners.

If you're still seeing it, you may need to run a malware check. Sorry

Rooners · 13/08/2013 17:45

Oh thanks Helen. I didn't know malware could appear in the same place as MN ads, I don't have it on any other sites and I'm browsing all the time today.

I will let you know but I can't see it at the moment.

Cheers again x

Ah ok, could be that our block is working now, then.

Tee2072 · 13/08/2013 17:54

Usually those things, with pop up buttons and such, are caused by Malware.

But if you don't see it, maybe it was on HQ's side.

Rooners · 13/08/2013 18:49

It seems to have gone, for the time being...fingers crossed Smile

Thanks again Tee

They are back. I am running a scan. By the way how DO you take a screenshot? Anyone?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 14/08/2013 10:52

It depends on your computer, but on the upper right of your keyboard, usually right above the Home, End, Insert, etc buttons, there should be a button that says 'Print Screen'. It may be in a box or part of another button as well.

Find that button and press it. Open a program like Paint, which comes with every Windows PC (if you're not using Windows, I have no idea how to do this) and select Paste.

If nothing Pastes or Paste is greyed out, then try ctrl+ print screen and see if that gives you anything.

OR If you're on Win 7 or later, you should have a program in your Start Menu that is called Snipping Tool. Activate that and you can grab a screen shot that way as well.

Clear as mud? Grin

Rooners · 14/08/2013 11:30

Oh wow that's actually very useful Tee. Thanks Smile

I did prtscn earlier and nothing happened but I didn't know to open Paint etc.

The scan said there was a win32 obfuscator or something, which it claims to have removed but the ad is still popping up in the ad box all the time.

I am resigned to just not clicking on it.

Will have a look at the snipping tool, sounds painful Grin

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 14/08/2013 11:39

The snipping tool is actually a lot of fun. You can grab anything on the screen you want and then it asks you to save it so you can share it with people. Grin

Rooners · 14/08/2013 11:42

I've put a pic on my profile, that is if you can see it - it is tiny.

OP posts:
Rooners · 14/08/2013 11:43

what do I need to click to make it public?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 14/08/2013 12:00

Look over the options and there's a 'make my profile public' thing...somewhere.

::helpful::

Rooners · 14/08/2013 12:02

I know, I've clicked and saved...it's not doing it. Gah. Computers hate me. Not to worry, I will sort it eventually...

LIZS · 14/08/2013 12:47

I'm getting a pop-up orange box asking me if I want to run seg.js - is that the same issue ?

Rooners · 14/08/2013 15:43

Hi Lizs, I've no idea - it could be but it's not happening here. I'm just getting the ads.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 14/08/2013 16:41

LIZS that sounds like a virus for sure.

LIZS · 14/08/2013 18:04

Just had a scan so hopefully clear now.

LIZS · 14/08/2013 19:28

hmm , came back and have rerun the scan .

m0nkeynuts · 15/08/2013 16:48

Recommend Malwarebytes (free) for scanning - tends to pick up things that other anti-viruses miss.
