Disabilist language?

SnowieBear · 05/08/2013 19:46

MNHQ has just deleted a thread I started on AIBU and acused me of using "Disabilist language".

What's that when it is at home?

The thread was not offensive, it's rather important to me and it's taking me ages to composed on a mobile.

No other explanation, not a friendly message to say "let's change this and save your post".

I feel down enough today to have to have MN give me the cold shoulder....

Dont take it personally friend :)

MNHQ were really helpful to me when I was bullied on MN; I never write my own queries now due to some posters' need to bully but some of the posts were removed.

Organisations need to be seen to be very PC these days and if youre not up on the latest terms regarding racist, ageist, sexist, disablist etc you can inadvertently make a booboo!

If you still want to persue the topic try again and phrase it differently.

Have a good evening :)

It's language that marginalises, insults or attacks people with disabilities. I didn't see it, but MNHQ don't delete such threads lightly.

Was the thread negative towards disability?

Eyesunderarock · 05/08/2013 22:47

It might not have seemed offensive to you, but someone was obviously upset and reported it. It's often the case that someone using disables, or racist language does so out of ignorance and doesn't see a problem.
I have no idea what your thread contained, but have a think about the words you used and how you phrased it.

Please look here OP

NB This thread is a DUPLICATE

Eyesunderarock · 05/08/2013 23:39

Ok, it makes sense to me now. You must have used an inappropriate word to describe a group of people who had annoyed you. The foul language on MN can be deceptive, often highly sexual and inventive but racist and disablist language is not accepted.

Hi Olivia and all, thanks for your responses and advice. Yesterday was obviously NOT my day... a thread pulled AND a duplicate!

I logged off yesterday in search of an early night, sorry forthe lack of response. I'll check my mails for your message, Olivia, I don't use that account often nowadays, time I refreshed my e-mail contacts in my account.

Again, thanks to all. I truly did not want to cause offence to anyone, especially after yesterday's going-ons.

Checked my e-mail account... as I hadn't used it in quite a while it was no longer accepting messages. I have updated my e-mail contact information for MN. Olivia, can I be a real pain and ask you to resend? It should get to me now.

Thanks so much!
