You need to be on the desktop version of the site. And then you need to go to My Mumsnet (up top, far right, next to the search box).

Click on My account in the dropdown and then overtype your new name into the User name box.

You may have to try a few times till you get a username that isn't already taken.

Whycan you not do it on iphone

Afraid the techy wangdoodles for namechanging aren't in place on the mobile site - sorry about that! We are aware that it's an issue though, and can imagine that in future version of the site, it will be addressed.
