Sorry, it won't {generally} be accessible to others if it is on an iPad.

You really need to 'upload' it to some web storage for anyone else (outside your home) to see it. I don't have an iPad (and because I run plenty of web sites myself, don't know what the most popular 'web storage' places are for images etc)... I do know some people use 'instagram'

Do, though, be aware that in many cases, 'uploading' anything gives the website owner carte blanche to make use of such content in any way they see fit (in other words, do check the T+C pages to just how they can use / republish 'your' image or comments / story or whatever, as they now also may be given 'rights' [upon you ticking the box saying you accept their T+C] as if you'd given the item to them, so don't give them 'private' photos or anything you would not want to be visible via a search engine such as Google).

Also, be aware that some put the onus on the user to come back and check the T+C, so even if the site doesn't at present say it can use 'your' material, it might in future, or might if it {and everything on the site} gets sold to a bigger fish {such as Google, for example}.

It's not that far fetched to think you have complete privacy but then find that on remote {especially USA based} servers, automatic scanning of all content is done. While I am pleased this has actually caught perverts with child porn stored away, it shows that there are some definite threats to online 'privacy' that items one might store, and assume no one else will access them, could be viewed by employees and government agency staff without any record or warning of it being done, and only minimal information in T+C to suggest it is possible for it to happen.

In the long run, it might be more easy to display items on individual tablets (etc), when umpteen million new internet addresses are available (so your fridge, TV, and most other electronic items can each be given their own address... however with such addresses will come greater security issues, too).

I've mentioned Google a few times here, only because it is the best-known search engine, but the same mentions could be given to other search tools and online firms which have significant numbers of users, or large funds available for the acquisition of other businesses.

Hi WildThongs.

You can upload a pic from your iPad onto MN Talk threads that are enabled for loading pics (eg those in Style & Beauty), as long as you're running IOS6.

RustyBear · 16/07/2013 09:45

I use Picasa web albums for showing pictures on MN - you can have public albums that anyone can see and private ones that you have to send a link to people for (though even with private albums I would take note of Networkguy's caveats above)
There's a very easy to use iPad app for Picasa web which lets you upload pictures from the iPad and then copy a link to paste into a post. Like this

And while we're on the subject, Helen, how far down Tech's list is making Site Stuff a picture-enabled topic so we can upload screen shots of problems? Grin

Thank Helen and Rusty!
