How can you tell if someone has name changed?

You can sometimes tell by the posting style, such as how they phrase things. Not an exact science though, many users on here could look alike.

When you name change the system keeps a track of your previous names, so you can tell yourself who you used to be. However not sure anyone other than you and MNHQ can see that.

Everyone is free to namechange whenever they like - as long as it's not done for misleading/trolling purposes.

And folk do like to do so in order to post more anonymously - so, actually, the idea is that you don't know they've namechanged.

Obviously, sometimes people namechange simply to have a laugh: lots of folk make themselves a Christmassy name over Christmas, for example - those ones are easy to spot because they're meant to be spotted.

I just wondered - a thread someone posted - and someone else asked why they had name changed?

I have never been able to work out any posters prev names so it is all anonymous.

I guess some posters do have a distinctive style - which makes them stand out.

Sometime you can tell they've name changed without knowing who they are by searching their name and seeing no previous posts
