MNHQ are you really advertising pole dancing?

Adverts for stag do parties in Budapest with the image of a woman's leg in a high heel next to a pole?
I didn't click on it so it may be something completely different but I know what it looked like! I couldn't believe my eyes.

Sorry should have made this clear in the title, this is not about pole dance classes, this is about stag dos with naked women.

MN once appeared to be offering me sexy russian babes. (no offence to sexy russian babes but if I'm going to have a wife, I only want one who's going to do at least half the housework)

It was some sort of banner/pop up problem on my own pc.

this wasn't a popup though, it was in the sidebar, and was on a thread about wedding/stag dos (which seems to be the way with the MN ads, they are very well targeted)

ok, so not a pop up, then one generated outside mn not a company who has paid mn to advertise.

I see one on the side now - ad choices. pole dance - windsor

I think it's to do with the text on the page. The ad is chosen not by MN but by ad choices or whatever based on keywords on the text of the page

I have a website and have a google ad thing on it and it works in a similar way. Text on the page itself brings me up a related ad plus if I've been browsing for something else on another tab - for example, prices of boilers - I go to my website and lo and behold - boiler breakdown coverage ad

sorry. point of that was that I am not sure how much they can control what ad pops up.

I have tried on my site to stop certain things and they still seem to seep through.

Right. I know the sort of thing you mean, I've got "pole dancing classes-Surrey" or something, but this was a big picture one, like the B&Q one/Aviva one under the "Mumsnet Talk" box

If you click on the adchoices logo on the ad itself, it should take you to a page where you can opt out of cookie-based ads and just see generic ones.

wow. I always thought those were the paid for ads.

Best ask mn? report button or email. I don't think they check AIBU unless a thread is reported. They said they do look through site stuff though

I know HQ have said previously that that do have some options on Ad Choices. So I hope that's a fluke!

The way I understand it, the ads come from a third party company who pay MN for advertising space. MN may be able to make requests about things to block, however, so maybe it should be flagged up to the admins.

I've just clicked onto the 3 day wedding thread and got wedding dresses, very well targeted advertising. I've also got pole dancing - Windsor (seems to be advertising classes). Haven't seen the one you mention though.

This is why I don't have ads on my blogs - because you can't be 100% sure that they will be appropriate to the site.

Report to MNHQ so they can Have A Word

It's not MNHQ that is responsible for the ads, it's customised to what you have been reading/searching for, so you either have to clear your cookies or opt-out. Reporting it to MNHQ will do nothing...

It's MNHQ who decide to put this kind of advertising on Mumsnet.

Not the ad itself. The type of self-loading stalkery advertising.

I presume it's lucrative, but I don't like it.

They are very careful with other types of ads, not sure why they are going with this product.

And I'm sure they can block certain ads - can you imagine the uproar if a Nestle ad was shown on Mumsnet?

Could MNHQ confirm if they have any control over the ads?
