MNHQ can we have a bra amnesty?

Dear lovely wise MNHQ, knowers of all things and shareholders of gin companies would you have any objection to my starting a thread for a bra amnesty?

I offered a nice, but little worn one of mine to a MNer recently and it gave me such a lovely warm glow (and she seems to be pleased too) that I wondered if it would be a good idea to put all the knowledge and wisdom in the bra intervention threads and all those ill-fitted but lovely bras to good use?

Whatcha fink?

Would it help if I promised faithfully that it would require precisely zero, zilch, nil percentage of your already busy and overburdened day to organise? No reason why we can't use the PM system to deal with the admin.

Love being called lovely and wise on a Saturday night. Grin

Erm. This sounds like a lovely idea. I was a bit worried I thought you were suggesting we all take 'em off and that would worry me INTENSELY in public GrinBlush

D'you mind if we get back to you properly after the weekend when we can have a proper convo with the 9 to 5 ers??

Oxfam had a Donate Your Bra thing a couple of years ago - maybe they'd be interested in a mass bra-off, so to speak?

I had a feeling shameless flattery might get your attention Wink - and no, I am not proposing we burn them all. I don't know about you, but I need mine!

Of course, no problems. Thought it best to ask, before I launched into it. Can see that it might be at risk of attracting the overly hirsute and in possession of an HGV licence...

Seriously, having done the MOOG, this will eat your life and make you cry.

It's a fab idea, but I'd suggest the best plan is that people post the sizes they have and then get PM'd to send them to someone.

Then only the recipient gives away their address, and there is no central admin :)

ComtessedeFrouFrou · 08/06/2013 21:02

Oh Nagoo that's exactly what I'm proposing. I'm not volunteering to admin it, just to start the thread. I just wanted to check tht MNHQ had no concerns before launching into it Smile

Hi there Comtesse,

I don't think anything about it would contravene our Guidelines, but we can't at all guarantee that it wouldn't invite an influx of, um, new posters with furtive habits. And like most things on here, we at MNHQ wouldn't necessarily be able to tell you which posters were genuine and which weren't (because we can't always tell ourselves until people have built up a posting history).

Also, you should be aware that it is not unknown for people to post on websites, posing as a needy person, specifically in order to solicit donations from other posters, which they could then (for example) sell on for profit.

So, to be honest, we can see a few possible problems with it. If you do decide to go ahead, it might have to be on the basis that you'd take recipients at face value, and on the understanding that we wouldn't be able to vet them for you or administer the scheme.

And for tidiness, it probably ought to be in the For Free topic here.

We hope this doesn't sound too much like pouring cold water on your lovely idea - we just wanted you to be aware of some potential pitfalls. Very best of luck with it if you do decide to go ahead!

Thanks Rowan, those were my primary concerns as well. I suspect that, for those reasons, it was a nice but ultimately impractical idea. Maybe people will see this and make their own offers, but I can see that a MN-wide exchange of bras could give the over-excitable the wrong idea.
