Some words are underlined and turn into links...

The word "soon" tells me I can win an iphone 5

Please make it stop

OP posts:
hedgefund · 20/05/2013 09:27

hedgefund · 20/05/2013 09:27

Hullygully · 20/05/2013 09:28

I've just read a post with the word "bookcases" and as my cursor moved over it went to a bloody website flogging bookcases

HelenMumsnet · 20/05/2013 09:32

Hello. Doesn't sound like something we'd do. Really.

We'll flag up to Tech.

hedgefund · 20/05/2013 09:33

not seeing it on any threads myself

HelenMumsnet · 20/05/2013 09:33

Are you folks that are getting underlinings on your phone or a laptop?

5318008 · 20/05/2013 09:34

IIRC it's a virus and you need to run a scan.

ZacharyQuack · 20/05/2013 09:36

This has happened before, hasn't it? I seem to remember an uproar a year or so ago when company names (e.g. Sainsburys) used in posts were being automatically being turned into links to that company's website.

It is happening again

HoneyDragon · 20/05/2013 09:39

Hully. It's just you. Grab your tinfoil hat and sit under a table with the dog. The bookcase people are out to get you.

NicholasTeakozy · 20/05/2013 09:40

IIRC it's called 'text enhancer' and it's a virus which many av products don't flag up. MBAM, Superantispyware or Spybot will pick it up and all are free. If they don't it's fairly simple to get rid of.

DeepRedBetty · 20/05/2013 09:41

No it's happening to me too! But on other sites as well, not just here. Blasted viral advertising

HoneyDragon · 20/05/2013 09:47

Anyone else now tempted to post bargin iPhone, sex toy, giant dildo, fruit shoot, horny goat boy, Daily Mail in their posts now?

HelenMumsnet · 20/05/2013 09:58

Hello. Ok, have triple-checked and, as we thought, it's DEFINITELY not anything to do with us.

I'd suggest you run a malware check PDQ.

OddBoots · 20/05/2013 10:02

I had that with IE (although I mainly use chrome) and tp stop it I has to go to disable add ons (via the cog shaped button, top right) and turn off a coupon company thing that had made its way onto my machine.

HeathRobinson · 20/05/2013 10:13

I keep reading this as underlings. Hmm

MimsyBorogroves · 20/05/2013 10:18

Me too, Heath.

I had this last year, but it's not happening now.

Yep. See our earlier post. Please run a malware check as soon as poss if this is happening to you.

Hullygully · 20/05/2013 12:07

how run what?

OP posts:
NicholasTeakozy · 20/05/2013 13:05

From the Firefox help link it appears I was right, it is text enhance. How to remove it yourself, or you could use Spybot Search & Destroy to remove it for you.
