Justine, the football expert

In the car, on the way to something, listening to R4, and come across Justine holding forth on ....

Football

Not mumsy stuff, but football. And genuinely knew her stuff, too

Impressed

Yes, about Bill Shankly, wasn't it?

Wuldric · 07/05/2013 18:34

It was, but not just about Bill (which could have been mugged up). There were a few anecdotes about other managers as well. She knows her football managers, does that gal.

a woman who knows more than mumsy stuff Hmm

did you mean this thread to sound so rude?

Wuldric · 07/05/2013 18:41

Oh gosh, I really didn't mean to cause offence :( It's just that whenever I've heard Mumsnetters on the radio it has been about Mumsnet and Mumsy related stuff.

Bowlersarm · 07/05/2013 19:07

I didn't think you were being rude. It just sounded un mumsnetty. When I've seen Justine quoted before it's always been on MN stuff.

Tech · 07/05/2013 22:56

Yes, indeed, Justine's something of a longstanding football fan / expert (actually she knows a freaky amount about a lot of sports tbh.) I believe she supports a team called Liver Pool, or something like that.

clam · 07/05/2013 23:11

Wasn't she once a sports journalist?

Wuldric · 08/05/2013 05:36

Aha! Now I understand that amount of uncanny knowledge about football managers :)

OP posts:
HelenMumsnet · 08/05/2013 08:07

She supports the wrong team, though. Just sayin'

UnChartered · 08/05/2013 09:39

turning the conversation a little, Justine, who's your tip for the new Utd manager?

JustineMumsnet · 08/05/2013 10:16

Bookies have Mourinho marginally as favorite over David Moyes - who's out of contract at Everton at end of this season and good friend of Fergie. I'd go for Moyes on balance but that may be wishful thinking.

gazzalw · 08/05/2013 10:58

I would hope that his retirement and the associated 'blip' that might occur as everyone adjusts to a new era at Man U. might work to the advantage of some of the other Premier League Clubs (for a year or so...).

Who will have the confidence to fill his shoes though?

Tee2072 · 08/05/2013 11:09

2 questions:

What language are you all speaking?

And

Is Helen's next performance review going to go badly?

She's hanging on by a thread, let me tell you Grin

Tee2072 · 08/05/2013 12:50

Wouldn't that be unfair dismissal? I mean, she hasn't even gotten a yellow card yet!*

*Tee proves that she's down with the football talk.

No, you can get a straight red for seriously unprofessional conduct/dangerous play. And to be frank I think we're in that kind of territory.

IamtheZombie · 08/05/2013 15:01

You know, this is one of the main reasons Zombie loves MN so much. The entire HQ staff from Justine on down will enter in dialogues with us on serious things and have a larf with us on less serious ones.

That's why the MN community feels more like a family than a group of random strangers.

Yeh, yeh, yeh but... Arsenal or Liverpool?

olgaga · 08/05/2013 15:07

Spurs fan here.

Sad Looks like we're about to do the usual end-of-season pfffffft.

Tee2072 · 08/05/2013 15:09

Yes, Zombie forget all that lovely stuff and pick a damn team!!!

Grin

Not that I could tell you anything about teams. Or football. American Football, maybe...

Wuldric · 08/05/2013 15:13

I like Justine's thinking of an automatic red card for Arsenal fans. Clearly going to be popular. A new emoticon may even be required.

OP posts:
IamtheZombie · 08/05/2013 15:20

Zombie is but a humble lower leagues sort of Zombie. She supports Shrewsbury.

McKayz · 08/05/2013 15:22

Olgaga, I really hope you do go pffffft!! Arsenal fan here!!

LalyRawr · 08/05/2013 15:28

I knew I liked this site for a reason.
