The scarf/affair/holiday mix up thread seemed like the very definition of a spoof rather than a troll.

It was deleted.

So was it a spoof or a troll ?

I would guess it was the 'started by a previously banned poster' that made the difference, cumfy....

Freddiemisagreatshag · 06/05/2013 13:56

A spoof is supposed to be funny.

That one wasn't.

HTH.

cumfy · 06/05/2013 14:00

Yes, but how do we now know whether they were banned for spoofing or trolling ? (IYSWIM)

BTW, I don't like spoofing either. :o

I'm just confused as to the status of spoofing.

That thread was horrible. I ended up in tears and got pasted and called all sorts of foul names.

If you think that's a spoof, then knock yourself out.

RebeccaMumsnet · 06/05/2013 14:46

Trolling is trolling as far as we are concerned, spoofing doesn't come into it.

If you are making it up to wind people up, you are trolling and breaking the guidelines.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/05/2013 18:00

That was a troll thread.
A spoof is funny and nobody gets upset IMO.

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 06/05/2013 20:15

How was it the definition of a spoof? A spoof means a sending up of a cliche/trope for comic effect. That was just trolling.

Freddiemisagreatshag · 06/05/2013 20:20

How on earth could you ever think that thread was the definition of a spoof op?
