that deletions were going to be a bit more reasonable.

I have just seen 2 deletions on a thread that totally weren;t against Talk Guidelines.

What the heck is going no?

I happen to still have a window opem, and can quote them.

It's really annoying and actually unacceptable, as it makes sane poaters look like Vipers when they're not. I thought this was going to be eradicated.

I am really saddened.

HQ?

@SuePurblybiltbyElves

Well, quite. The poster in question called someone else's posts 'shitty', mid-rant. That's not been deleted, or even reported I shouldn't think - nor do I think it should be.

Indeed they shouldn't. Though we rather wish she hadn't posted that - not very civil.

Helen - are you ignoring me :(

Sorry, who?

I'm personally in favour of 'stop being a twat'. I can't see this going down too well though.

You're deluded = you are mistaken in thinking you are right
Your posts are shitty = what you say and the tone in which you say it is shitty

I don't think either should be deleted tbh, but I think the shitty thing is worse.

Anyway, I'm arguing for the sake of arguing now, MNHQ can very much do as they like, course they can. Their site, innit?

Oaty
We need an, 'you appear to be a cunt, but I am willing to be convinced otherwise' emoticon.

Or we could use YATBAC

Am embracing YATBAC forthwith

YATBAC is very catchy. I like YATBAC.

Report
MmeLindor · 17/11/2012 23:40

Can we say that, Helen?

You appear to be a cunt

I haven't called anyone a cunt, have I?

Report
MmeLindor · 17/11/2012 23:41

NOT THAT I WAS CALLING HELEN A CUNT

Report
LadyMaryChristmas · 17/11/2012 23:41

I don't like 'you're deluded'. People with mental illnesses suffer delusions, so it would be wrong to associate delusions with something that you disagree with.

@ChippingInLovesAutumn

Helen - 'you are delusional' can't possibly be a 'personal attack'.

Delusional:

having false or unrealistic beliefs or opinions

a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary

How can either of those consitute a personal attack?

Sorry

Because delusional also has a medical definition, associated with psychiatric illness.

I love "some of your characteristics are those of a cunt, but the number is below the threshold at which you yourself are a cunt." I will look for a RL opportunity to use that.

YATBAC is snappier though.

Look, in the end, it's not about semantics; it's about civility.

We welcome robust debate and strong differences of opinion.

But we ask that everyone treats everyone else with civility and respect, even while having the strongest possible opposite opinion.

So rather than asking which words and wording are the most delete-dodgy ways of insulting/having a pop at another poster, we'd rather you didn't insult/have a pop at them all.

Have a pop at their opinions instead.

Play the ball, people, not the player

Yeah but we'll define it as "You are the best at counter-arguing"

Helen, I'm really glad you said that! Couldn't read the entire 5 pages as I was getting quite arsey about this.

SueP, calling a person delusional is offensive. Saying it's true actually makes things worse, unless you happen to be making a very carefully-judged call on a mental health thread.

Perhaps you meant the other poster "had been deluded" by something she read in the papers or suchlike?

Report
ChippingInLovesAutumn · 17/11/2012 23:50

From the medical dictionary:

medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/delusion. delusion /de·lu·sion/ (dĕ-loo´zhun) an idiosyncratic false belief that is firmly maintained in spite of incontrovertible and obvious proof or evidence to the contrary...

I still don't see how it's a personal attack.

Report
LadyMaryChristmas · 17/11/2012 23:51

Grin Bollocks is excellent. I can see Helen's point though. Most of us have a few brain cells, we should come up with far better arguments then this.
