Did you know that if you name-change, your user status could totally out you?

User status is that thing that pops up when you hover over some posters' name. (Sorry if you already knew this.)

If you name-change, your user status doesn't automatically change. Which could totally out you if someone's paying attention!
Shock

I realized this a while ago but remembered it earlier earlier when I noticed someone's name change hadn't included user status.

I have status?

There must be some mistake.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 20/10/2012 18:08

MNHQer on duty
don't you all do this for the love? and the gin?

MaryZed · 20/10/2012 18:10

I have a hoverererer dangly-bit thingie [technical term] and I don't have any profile, much less a public profile.

It does go with your name change, but goes back when you change back.

So if I change to TrollyMcTroll for a thread, it will show my hoverererer, but when I change back my hoverererer won't be on Trolly's posts, if that makes sense. So it's no use for outing Sockpuppets, sadly.

ZombTEE · 20/10/2012 18:11

Oh you're right MaryZed, I was confused.

Easy enough to not have one at all though.

HelenMumsnet · 20/10/2012 18:17

@SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood

MNHQer on duty don't you all do this for the love? and the gin?

Of course. But there's only enough gin for a few at a time.

The rest of us are forced to see our children/lie down for a while.

Trills · 20/10/2012 18:34

Did you know they are advertising for people to be MNHQer on duty?

Only if you have a name that's not already taken though. No more Helens allowed.

OliviaMumsnet · 20/10/2012 18:57

BTW Olivia, what happened to your 'L'. Did you did stop feeling like Samuel L Jackson?

AnotherCerealNameChanger · 20/10/2012 19:18

I name change quite a bit. I have a not so nice stalker on forums who seems to have nothing better to do with their time than bloody follow me around and drip cryptic crap at me when she finds me

to think I used to be considered paranoid

You need to find MyMumsnet (up on the big long blue bar underneath the MN logo), log in and go to Registration Details. Just type in a new nickname in the nickname field and Save. You may have to try a few times because so many obvious (and not-so-obvious) names are already taken.

HelenMumsnet · 22/10/2012 16:28

@ChippingInLovesAutumn

Helen - it would be good to have a flash up/reminder when you 'name change'.

OK, folks, the reminder has now been added - and will go live next time we do a code release.

Trills · 22/10/2012 16:58

Do your techs call it a "rollout"?

MaryZed · 22/10/2012 17:17

They do it every night at 9 pm Trills. They call it a roll-out, we call it a slow-down.

Jacksmania · 22/10/2012 18:08

Wow. My thread changed something on Mumsnet. I'm so proud.
