Name whatsit - where you allow us to take up names.

Dear MNHQ,

I would like a name thingy (I can't remember the word, but Reality asked for it once) so that I can use a name which someone else has used previously.

The name I would like to use is Absy.
Here are a number of ridiculously good reasons as to why I'd like it and why I should have it:

1. I have checked, and wheover has it, has never used it. Ever, like never ever in the history of mumsnet (unless I searched wrong - a possibility)
2. Some VERY IMPORTANT and well regarded MNers Pag use it for my nickname
3. It's short to type
4. My proper short name is Abs, but there's someone called Abzs/Absz so it would be well confusing if I was Abs, and Absy's awesome.

Can I say, you're all looking VERY lovely today, and have you lost some weight?

1. It is taken but no-one has ever posted with that name EVER.

2. And I am asking very nicely (not like the other time when I demanded it, - that didn't work)

3. I offend some people because I have "Christ" in my name

4. some people call me "ohChrist" I'm not keen on that, I would prefer Fenton.

5. I do have some cute puppy pictures on my profile for you to look at.

It's not like we're asking for the moon on a stick (I believe that names taken - haha), just for names that are nice, and not offensive

I'm pretty sure that we are never, ever going to have a nickname auction again, because it used up roughly 2375 billion hours of staff time and made about £200 (figures may be approximate)

Reassigning names is a leetle bit tricky, but we might be persuaded to look into it in return for the usual inducements.

I have no need of a name, but I join hands with my sisters in their need to express themselves.

Rowan, have I ever told you that you're my favourite MNHQer if you're deciding this?

What are the usual inducements? I've obviously never done this before? Does it involve gin? Does it involve a night of getting tipsy with MNHQ over gin cocktails and games of strip Balderdash, or whatever? I know Pinot did this before, so I'm imagining it involves some light nipple tweaking

It was an auction last time - In April 2007, in aid of Mile for Maude. I bought Rusty, mainly to stop anyone else getting it (and also because it was a good cause!)

Can you not do what a lot of fora do and delete accounts that haven't been active in over a set amount of time?

It will definitely involve gin, - I have gin, and some very nice home-brewed Merlot Blush (honestly it is surprisingly good and leaves absolutely no hangover whatsoever)

Nevertheless it wasn't (we found) the most efficient way of raising money

Have you tried Kerastase Bain blah blah for "sensitised" hair. It's amazing. VERY amazing, but it does make DH go "you spend HOW much on shampoo on conditioner?!" (and then sneakily use it)
