Mumsnetiquette - what to do if a newbie has a near identical name?

Just wondered what the form is? Have been here since 2004 and for several years under this name. Just spotted a new (very nice sounding) poster with a name that is identical apart from one letter! Is it OK to say something?

I did on a previous NN of mine. I just said it casually like hey we have similar names and I think they thought I was a bit peeved, which I wasn't at all. I got a PM saying that they will change. I wanted a change anyway and I did. That was 2 NN's ago though

NunTheWiser · 14/08/2012 15:37

So it's OK to just PM them and say something?

Actually, it's prompted me to name change myself.

This happened last year when StrandedPolarBear joined, and it made threads quite confusing when StealthPolarBear was posting on them too. Stranded dropped the 'Polar' and everyone was happy and less confused!

Hi NunTheWiser. Sorry to be slow to answer this one.

Tis a bit tricky, innit?

Have you tried PMing her nicely? Always worth pointing out that your concern is more that you two will get muddled up than you being some sort of prima donna (as if).

Let us know if you two can't come to some kind of understanding - and you need some MNHQ help to sort it out.

Ah. Too late to the party, I see. Sorry!

There's someone on here with a similar name to mine (I've been jumpingjackhash for years) - I'm happy for us to rub along until she posts something I realy don't like then I might change

jumpingjackhash · 15/08/2012 13:11

PS Nice new nn BookieMonster!

You have to have an out and out MN fight in the mud. The rest of us get to place bets.

PuggyMum · 15/08/2012 13:19

I saw a pugmummy a few weeks ago too and was a bit Hmm about whether people would confuse us.....

MsLydia · 19/08/2012 21:19

I was so fed up being confused with a (now band) newbie I name changed myself in the end.

Sorry to reopen this thread, but I've just noticed a poster with a very similar name to mine. Looks like a recent change. Should I NC?
