Bold has changed and got smaller - or is it me?

Just enough to be slightly irritating to me.

Previewing didn't seem to show this, but posts on Relationships seems to show the effect I'm talking about (haven't checked elsewhere).

Let's see what happens

Yes, am irritated. Letters are slightly shorter.

There was a thread about this a few months back. IIRC, Tech thought it didn't look any different - but I think most people decided it does look smaller

That bold L is 1 pixel shorter in height. I also considered optical illusion before posting, but it isn't.

In fact they are all 1 pixel shorter (have not checked width)

And here's me thinking you are talking about washing powder! Now that does annoy me even more if they keep putting the prices up while reducing the size of contents...

It's much smaller if I'm on my phone but not on the laptop.

BabyGiraffes am old enough to have seen what I call 'The Mars Bar Effect' repeatedly over the years - Mars Bar gets smaller, but remains same price, gets smaller at same price again, disappears briefly, returns looking bigger again and costing more.

I think the regular text is 13 pixels and bold is 12. I can't remember why this was done tbh, but I think it might have been that the extra weight of the bold letters in a slightly fat font like Verdana (the one we use) made the letters look too big when they were 13 pixies. So someone made them 12 instead, where they end up looking almost the same size as the regular text, but bold. It was something like that anyway. I'll check with the others. I'm interested to find out now....

It's been like that for a long time I think, I hasten to add. We haven't just changed anything.

I remember the discussion before.

If you use ctrl + to zoom in the difference is very marked.

I think the original argument was that 13px bold text looked too aggressive or something.
