I am aware that I am spectacularly curmudgeonly but this gets ever so slightly on my norks. Isn't it the same sort of thing as spamming?

Totally agree, especially when it isn't made clear that the link is to their self indulgent bland blog. It annoys me that I'm adding to their "hits" which I believe is a kudos thing.
Disclaimer I'm not a blogger so have no idea whether the "hit kudos" thing is true or not.

Hello. Yes, there are!

We have a general rule that members of our Mumsnet Bloggers Network are most welcome to post about and link to their blogs in any thread in our Bloggers topic but that it's not OK to post links to their blogs in other topics - as we know it annoys so many folks.

Same rules apply to those who aren't members of our Mumsnet Bloggers Network - except that they really shouldn't be posting in our Bloggers topic without joining our Network first (we might strongarm them if they haven't!).

That said, we are aware that many of our newbie members of the Mumsnet Bloggers Network do get a bit lost when they first venture on to Talk and may well post in the wrong topic at first.

So, please do report to us anyone who's posting links to their blogs on threads that aren't in the Bloggers topic (and then we'll delete and drop 'em a line) but please also bear in mind that they might have done so entirely innocently (unless you know they're a serial offender - in which case, do tell us and we'll get our big stick out).

What about posters who promote their blog by putting their blog name in their MN username? Eg CatherineJTV (JustTheVax)?

traffichalter · 23/06/2012 16:12

What it means is that they have an agenda to push - a vested interest.

Ok, thanks Helen. I don't think I would be arsey to anyone on the thread itself. And, yes, Random, Ta Daaaa guess what I've arrived! lady was v entertaining.

@traffichalter

If they were reported to us, we'd mail them and ask them very politely to change their username to something that wasn't promotional.
