Reporting posts - the aftermath!

Hello MNHQ, I reported a post yesterday from a poster called Nay1 as it was blatantly an advert for some Sainsbury's energy thing with phone number and everything. I do not think I posted on the thread itself, I just reported it. Presumably you agreed as the thread was pulled shortly after.

I was a little surprised to receive a pm from Nay1 claiming that it was not spam. Do MNHQ routinely pass on message and poster details from "report post" in this way?

Well, any poster can contact another poster... I think there is some debate as to whether you should be allowed to opt out if you wish... So it seems most likely that you did post on the thread, and that's how they got your details.

I'm not MNHQ, but long time member and have had some reasons to contact MN about another poster and AFAIK, MN do not hand out details.

Thumbwitch · 21/06/2012 05:09

DId you post anywhere else on the boards that you had reported that thread?

I'd be very surprised, and not a little concerned, that MNHQ had taken to divulging the names of reporting posters to the reportee! I sincerely hope that hasn't happened in this case (or ever, in fact).

Nay1 would likely have had an email from MNHQ but it shouldn't have "named names".

dilbertina · 21/06/2012 06:00

I'm really pretty certain I didn't post on thread. Didn't mention it elsewhere. In my report post thing I just said "spam!" and the pm was headed "re: spam!". Had I posted on the thread I feel sure I would have said something far more amusing and incisive!

The PM isn't abusive or anything just a claim that the poster is indeed a genuine mum trying to help other mums. (apparently by giving a phone number of a Mr Shah who will save us all money by switching us to sainsbury's energy....)

Did anyone else report and not post and have subsequently received a pm?

Do you post from an iPhone because I find the message poster and report poster buttons come up together
Did you accidentally pm Nay1 instead of reporting the post?

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 21/06/2012 06:06

Are you sure you didn't message poster instead of report (I've nearly done it)

You can check your sent PM's.

MrsSnaplegs · 21/06/2012 06:06

MNHQ email you when you report a post to let you know their response

ElephantsCanRemember · 21/06/2012 06:10

MrsSnaplegs MNHQ don't always respond when you report a post.

dilbertina · 21/06/2012 06:22

PANIC OVER!!!!! Very sorry, ThisWeekonFancyPuffin was spot on - I had indeed somehow managed to send the message to the poster rather than reporting post. Doh! Apologies for causing alarm and consternation!

Ooops OP, at least you know what happened. I wold be very surprised if MNHQ had divulged any details of who reported posts.

worrywortisworrying · 21/06/2012 06:44

Oops!! Glad you have found out what went on.

I didn't think MNHQ would have given out details like that, and I'm glad that you know that they haven't.

Thumbwitch · 21/06/2012 07:08

Ahhhhh - the perils of the twatiphone strikes again, yes? Grin

Thank goodness you worked it out!

RebeccaMumsnet · 21/06/2012 15:48

Phew, we go to great lengths NOT to pass over any details so this would be a huge shock.

Glad you got it sorted in the end.

traffichalter · 21/06/2012 16:59

Laughing at this...how much of MNHQ's budget is spent on brown paper bags?

do you get valium slipped into your paypacket as well?

OliviaLMumsnet · 21/06/2012 21:56
