I can perhaps understand that AIBU not right and also 'Telly Addicts' a bit flippant. But why not move to 'Chat'? This issue needs a big audience not to be sidelined or made a single issue.

Hello...

There do appear to be some responses in 'Elderly parents' to this topic. However I still feel it should be on a topic with more 'traffic'.

In my opinion MNHQ has sidelined and metaphorically brushed the issue under the carpet.

Hi Sunflower,

Not at all. Many MNHQers have Elderly parents and it is an issue that needs to be discussed, we completely agree.

The thread was moved out of AIBU because it really didn't belong in there. Telly addicts was initially suggested as it was a TV programme that sparked the conversation. Then it was reported again last night as Telly addicts seemed a bit trivial for such a weighty issue. We agreed and moved it to Elderly parents, which is a place for folks to discuss their Elderly parents/relatives.

Threads in chat disappear so we think that it is probably best to leave it where it is.

Please do keep it bumped by posting on it.

Best wishes

MNHQ

Maybe a good thread on elderly care could get started in Chat during the Louis Theroux programme about dementia which I think is tonight?

AIBUqatada · 25/04/2012 09:17

Wow, that seems rather prescriptive. Why does HQ get to decide in such detail under which rubric something is discussed?

2blessed2bstressed · 25/04/2012 09:17

Louis Theroux is on tomorrow (Thurs) on BBC2 at 9pm.

Hi AIBU,

We don't tend to move threads unless they are reported to us.
This one was reported a few times, so we had to make a judgement call.

SunflowersSmile · 25/04/2012 09:23

Thank you for the reply Rebecca. I am still not sure I agree with you as feel not just an issue of concern for those currently with elderly parents but a much wider issue. A lot of us may get old and vulnerable- this could be our future. The care industry is a huge issue which deserves as wide an audience as possible.

Yes, I can see you have to respond to complaints. Weird, though, to be put in a position of having to shape conversation in this way.

RebeccaMumsnet · 25/04/2012 09:48

Do you think that In the News may be a better place for the thread to live?

southeastastra · 25/04/2012 09:51

aibu is the most flippant topic so i agree it shouldn't be there

how about in the news? or is there a current affairs?

2shoes · 25/04/2012 09:54

why not use other stuff?

SunflowersSmile · 25/04/2012 09:54

In the news does sound like an option. It is newsworthy/ arrest has been made.

Ok, we have moved it to In the news now and we have posted on the thread.

Apologies for the confusion.

SunflowersSmile · 25/04/2012 10:08

Thanks. Hope it gets some attention there. Hope those who posted in 'Elderly parents' will know where it has gone!
