I can't bear to see an unanswered thread. I asked MNHQ to move one.

Question: Do we need a separate SN Education section that hardly anyone ever looks at? Should we ask for it to be removed or possible have a sticky or something directing people to SN Children where all the baddies wonderful SN parents lurk?

oh and I don't see the point in sn legal as tbh you would get more replies in the sn topic.
imo people who post in sn are very busy, so they don't have loads of time to go around different topics.

lionheart · 17/04/2012 21:38

I would like to see this happen. Smile

shoppingbagsundereyes · 17/04/2012 21:53

I posted several times in sen education to no avail before discovering sen children got all the traffic. Definitely don't need both.

UnChartered · 17/04/2012 21:55

i'd like to see them merged too, good idea

Thanks
Toppy · 17/04/2012 22:16

I agree - I too feel awful when I see unanswered threads there. They need merging

Hellenbach · 17/04/2012 22:21

I didn't know there wasva SN education board!

DameHermione · 17/04/2012 22:24

mines a teenager but i still wallow around in SN children as that's where the nice people will listen to my woes and feed me Wine

is there a need for the sub-SN bits at all? or if they were ditched would one SN section be too big and move too fast?

messmonster · 17/04/2012 22:25

I agree they should merge and the main SN board be changed to SN Kids and Education

2shoes · 17/04/2012 22:33

I would hate to see the teens bit go, it just needs more people to post on it

DameHermione · 17/04/2012 22:33

aybe i should move over there. but i'd have nobody to talk to Sad

2shoes · 17/04/2012 22:33

Would agree to merge the forums. Have more than once advised another poster on the Education forum under special needs to repost in SN Children as that forum receives far more daily traffic.

Iceflower · 18/04/2012 09:49

Also agree the need to merge. A change in heading would also help, as some parents at the beginning of the SN journey might get scared off by the "SN" label.

Sometimes a parent knowing something is not quite right, suspects dyslexia and somewhere down the line discovers the child has AS, PDA, anxiety disorder, etc, etc. That parent was me Grin.

Bellete · 18/04/2012 11:31

Oh God yes-I often tell posters on SEN to repost on Special Needs Children as I feel so sorry for them with so little traffic there. I am a bit Shock as to the existence of a Special Needs Teen board-how could I have missed this? I had no idea it existed.Confused. Why not just have one Special needs area for children and teens and special needs education? It would be much easier and clearer. I have a 12 yr old who will obviously be a teen next year but I would much prefer to stay on the childrens board as there is some terrific advice on there from posters who also have teens etc.

cwtch4967 · 18/04/2012 16:44

I think SN Education should be included in SN children as it overlaps. I never look at SN education and only use SN Children.

TheLightPassenger · 18/04/2012 16:58

Agree with Wet and others, merge away, so people are likely to get replies more easily.

coolaskimdeal · 18/04/2012 19:48

i think its a good idea to move the 2 in together. tbh i only ever check the snchildren topic.

HelenMumsnet · 19/04/2012 17:59

Hello. Sorry to be so slow in coming back about this.

We're a bit wary of merging SN Education and Special Educational Needs in Education, as they're not the same thing.

But how about if we make it so that Special Educational Needs is listed in both the Special Needs section and the Education section (same topic; just listed in both areas)?

Would that work?

Well, and please correct me if I'm wrong, SN Education is about the education of children with SN (and their special needs may not necessarily be special educational needs) and SEN is about the education of children with, specifically, special educational needs.

Actually, I'm not sure I am right

According to the government: "The term 'special educational needs' (SEN) has a legal definition, referring to children who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn or access education than most children of the same age."
