What's all this place-marking stuff, then?

On the 'weird hosts' thread, people keep coming in and saying that they are 'marking their place' on the thread. WTF do they mean?

OP posts:
babyheave1662 · 11/04/2012 18:58

I presume they want it to appear in active convos but don't have owt to post themselves OR are coming back to add to it / read it later.

Dunno why folk don't watch it instead, but horses for courses and all that.

mablemurple · 11/04/2012 18:59

That they can easily find both the thread and the place they have read up to by searching on threads I'm On.

southeastastra · 11/04/2012 18:59

they mean they want to no-one ever does that now do they

cornsyilk · 11/04/2012 19:00

they want it on their threads I'm on to save searching for it

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2012 19:02

In the old days, people would just do a fullstop and post. Now, people announce that they're marking their place.

Can't be arsed tbh. I can't remember a thread much past the moment I've posted on it. Not that any of you bore me, you understand! WinkGrin

MsNorbury · 11/04/2012 19:05

its naff imo
add to " watch"

Jux · 11/04/2012 19:25

I do that to get it on my I'm on list. Much easier than watching, which I always forget about anyway.

Bunbaker · 11/04/2012 19:29

How to you add a message to "I'm watching? Do you just click on "Add message"?

SuePurblyBusinesslike · 11/04/2012 19:35

click watch this thread - top and bottom. It'll live in your watched threads.
Then you can mark your place by hovering in the bottom right hand corner and clocking on the 'bookmark' that appears. No need for all this .... and marking place piffle.

Pinot · 11/04/2012 20:00

I never watch threads. Am I missing out? Or just have soooooo much shite to say I always end up commenting? Yes yes it's the latter.

coffeeinbed · 11/04/2012 20:07

Watching's better.
My "I'm on threads" disappear quite quickly.

MigratingCoconuts · 11/04/2012 20:14

this seems like it might become an interesting thread...marking my place Wink

Pinot · 11/04/2012 20:16

Migrating I haven't seen you in yonkers :)

MigratingCoconuts · 11/04/2012 20:19

Pinot · 11/04/2012 20:32

Blush It was a crazy few weeks! The night feeds! The bottom wiping! heh heh :o

MigratingCoconuts · 11/04/2012 20:36

yes...and then there were the kittens to look after!

champagnesupernova · 11/04/2012 23:36

yy watching is fine but then you have to unwatch when thread dies. tis boring. lurking/place marking much better imo

Jux · 12/04/2012 10:00

Hi Pinot! Have you got pics of the kittens all grown up now? They were so cute....

BusinessTrills · 12/04/2012 10:02

I never look at "I'm watching".

They want it to appear on "threads I'm on" but don't have anything to say.

BareBums · 12/04/2012 10:06

Jus' marking me place...

Grin
HettyKett · 12/04/2012 10:08

Not something I do, I don't like it, seems rude. I can see why people would though.

It wouldn't happen if the bookmarking function was up to it's job. WTF is the point of it when you then have to go searching for the thread before the bookmark is of use? We need a "threads I've bookmarked" bit.

Pinot · 12/04/2012 10:19

Hetty yy I think it's a bit rood too. Sure it's not. But.

Jux I'll put some new ones on my profile this week in prep for their birthday on Tuesday :) :)
