Is it now MN policy to put the slightly 'dodgy' or doubtful threads onto OTBT?
I've seen a couple now that have been transferred there, do other posters request this because they are worried about the OP, or is it automatic when people report now?
And funnily enough the OP's tend to disappear as soon as it's moved.
I thought Of the Beaten Track was for people who where looking for a private place to chat, not for suspected trolls.

It's not about trolling, I don't think. It's where there are fears for the safety of the OP if it is found by (generally) the abusive man they are posting about, or people who recognise him and helpfully tip him off. This has actually happened a few times recently.

Agree Beer. If we could have a clique topic, that'd be ace. So we could chat, lurkers can lurk and none of it clogs up Active. That's the only reason the wolefs are in OTBT - so we don't annoy folks by being constantly in Active when we're yacking about shoes and spots. And Pimms.

This is correct, DeepThought. Threads that are created in OTBT aren't indexed by Google but threads that are transferred over there from somewhere else are.

We do always pre-warn OPs of threads we are moving about this. And suggest they might prefer to start a new thread instead.

Sometimes, that's what they opt to do; sometimes, they're just grateful to find a place where their thread won't keep popping up in Active Convos when they'd rather it didn't.
