Why can't I hide threads without having to click on them any more?

I find some topics upsetting, so I hide these threads, but now I have to click into them first, therefore voiding the point of the exercise. Can this be changed back please?

There is a minus sign at the end of each line of threads and clicking on this hides it without having to open them.

Oh and did you see the manage hidden threads link at the bottom of the Action Convo threads list?
