Automatic log-off

Is there any reason to how long the automatic log-out gives you before turfing you out? Sometimes I can close the site down and come back 30 mins later and still be logged in (fine) but othertimes I'll read a thread (not lengthy) and post but that post gets lots when I press 'post' as the site then tells me I need to register. I try to copy posts before I press send, but don't always remember, then kick myself when it hasn't posted.

Anyone else suffer the same? Any suggestions?

Hi MT, normally the timeout is 30 minutes. It can be shorter if the server restarts for any reason. That was probably what happened this afternoon - we shut down briefly to do an update.

We have some work in the pipeline currently which will fix this, but it may be a few weeks until it's completely sorted out. Eventually you should stay logged in for 30 minutes regardless of what else is going on on the site.

In the meantime, if you click the "remember me" button on the login page, this logout shouldn't happen. If that box is ticked, even if you get logged out you get automatically logged back in the next time you try do something that needs you to be logged in. You shouldn't lose any posts in that case.

Thanks Tech... I normally leave the timed log-out on because I think its a very sensible feature. I look forward to the fix being sorted. Xmas Smile
