Inspired by the 11 people who completed the first survey from this thread: Can we have a like button on every posters post an expanded survey of suggestions has been put together.

Anyone without a sense of humour is invited to click Hide this thread, frothing beserkers are invited to start their own thread in AIBU and the rest of you please click www.surveymonkey.com/s/MM3TBDD. You get one go at the survey.

Results will be published on Friday.

I know your name mistlethrush.

Mwah ha ha ha ha

mistlethrush · 12/10/2011 15:08

TSG you probably saw it in that eye spy book of birds when you were younger.... Grin

ColdSancerre · 12/10/2011 15:08

I recognise you mistle. Thing is you eventually come to recognise loads and loads of names, don't you? So in the end everyone is included if they post. If they lurk and never post they will never be included or recognised.

Blackduck · 12/10/2011 15:10

I love the image of a soggy hotdog and cold bovril :)

nightshade · 12/10/2011 15:17

mistlethrush, getting 'lost' in mumsnet was a specific response to katiem's comment on the fact that i couldn't find my thread, not a general comment.

nightshade · 12/10/2011 15:19

theskiingg, from your perspective, things may be black and white / a or b, others however prefer to look at life in groupings of three a, b and c or in varying shades of black, white and grey.

mistlethrush · 12/10/2011 15:21

nightshade - I find 'threads I'm on' really useful for that. Although if I've posted on a lot of threads, I agree I sometimes lose one of them Grin

ExitPursuedByaBear · 12/10/2011 15:23

Have voted, and almost blinded the dog with the bosom hefting.

Was enjoying this thread but it seems to be turning ugly...

Great survey KatieM, but when I try and click on your link to the questions my server blocks it - is there something rude?

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 12/10/2011 15:28

I did it, mostly my answers were can't give a toss (or the equivalent). I don't know the like thing because I don't have FB, nor do I have an iPhone [deprived]

mistlethrush · 12/10/2011 15:29

KatieM - there, apparently, is a cull on the tuperware in the office - including some takeaway plastic boxes - would you like to add some to your prize haul?

Exitpbab - my dog's luckily out of range.

TheSkiingGardener · 12/10/2011 15:33

Only speaking from my point of view nightshade. And personally I prefer a phantasmagoria of kaleidoscopic colour.

I lurked for quite a while, but have fount things far more fun now I post.

TheSkiingGardener · 12/10/2011 15:33

Still can't type though

Thzumbiewitch · 12/10/2011 15:40

Wotcher MT! Grin

I think that was a jolly good survey - 8/10 for effort. You would have scored higher if you had included a "Do you want a pumpkin emoticon for Hallowe'en?" question. That would have brought home the trophy.

mistlethrush · 12/10/2011 16:01

Shhhhh TW - it'll look as though I am part of a quiche if you carry on like that!

I like the shades of grey that are possible through actually voicing an opinion. Things are very rarely black or white. A rainbow would also be good as that goes sideways as well as across. Perhaps that's why buttons are such an emotive subject because they fail to capture any nuances. Although having a dislike will at least give a black and white option rather than just a white one. There's a nice question for you - on a black to white scale - is white 'like' and black 'dislike' or is black a positive colour and therefore 'like' and white the opposite... Perhaps it should have been red and green or green and red. but then shades of grey wouldn't really have worked in between.

Perhaps I should stop rambling?

but I love Pag too and the fishy one...

KatieMorticiaton · 12/10/2011 18:22

Right I'm back. We're up to 497.

Can I just say that this is a Mumsnet thread for Mumsnet people and we'll have no trouble here? There is an instruction at the top of the thread for those who are unable to play nicely.

Apologies nightshade if you were offended. I only meant to pull your leg a wee bit. Being a lurker is no insult btw. I often lurk and if something's been said already I usually don't bother to post. Unless of course I can add a personal and irrelevant story to draw the attention onto me.

'abstainers or 'lurkers',a lthough obviously not high in your esteem, still remain, and are no less of an entity nor user than those who choose to enter fully into the debate.'

This doesn't sit quite right with me. You want to be allowed to contribute - but what sort of contribution is a tick in a box?

It feels like you can jolly well see us, read our posts, get a good idea of who we are. But we can't see you. It's like being allowed to watch a meeting through a window, a one way window, and see and hear everything but the people who are in the meeting can't see who you are...and then you get to vote on it?

It's not right. Surely.

GetDerridaThePeskyLurkers · 12/10/2011 18:40

What I mean is, join in, nail your colours to the mast and get bashed about like the rest of us - and then your opinion will be rightfully considered.

If you won't put your toe in the water, what gives you the right to comment on our posts by liking or disliking them?

I am sounding very defensive aren't I.
But it does feel a bit Little Red Hen.

Yes it's become about those who don't choose to contribute meaningfully, rather than existing time-poor posters having an extra facility to add weight to an argument while feeding a baby with one hand and ironing with the other. (not entirely recommended)

I felt a bit like it when someone recognised me on here, knew my username, but refused to tell me hers. It just feels rubbish.

SayGhoulNowSayWitch · 12/10/2011 18:49

at Get Derrida's name. Have you recently nc'd ?

GetDerridaThePeskyLurkers · 12/10/2011 18:57

All the time, Ghoul/witch. All the time...I'm normally around, though. and when I left for a bit, I didn't lurk. No sir.
