POLL NOW CLOSED. Would you like to have the option to Quote posts on Talk threads (like MNHQ can)? Please come and cast your vote

Hello.

We've had a few people asking us to extend to everyone MNHQ's Quote function (you know, the thingie where we can quote another person's post in our posts).

But we have also clocked a fair few folk who would rather Talk stayed as it is and didn't have a Quote function on threads.

So we have opened up a little poll to find out what the true picture is.

So what do you think? To quote or not to quote?

Do please feel free to discuss the issue with other Mumsnetters here on this thread, and please do vote and help us decide. (We'll leave this up for a good few days to make sure everyone gets a chance to contribute their tuppence ha'penny.)

NB: as it involves a bit of Tech work, we won't roll out the Quote option unless there is a clear majority in favour of it and, if there were, we would most likely test it in a specific topic (such a Chat) before putting it everywhere - just to check it wouldn't cause havoc.

Thanks v much, MNHQ

I think responses to the poll are fairly conclusive, non?

Pinot · 20/09/2011 11:46

testaroo

Pinot · 20/09/2011 11:49

(test2)

Pinot · 20/09/2011 11:49

WAH! I can't do it!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 20/09/2011 13:37

Absolutely. Would also like the option to edit my own posts.

NessaRose · 20/09/2011 13:49

Nooo for all the reasons listed.

You cannot wish several weeks away by tapping your foot, and looking at your watch, you know!

No. I don't want to do a poll either. Can't you just quote me as a no?

Any poster on Mumsnetter who cannot work out a presentable way of quoting someone else in their own post needs their bumps felt well ... words fail me, sadly, actually.

Valpollicella · 20/09/2011 22:44

No quoting, seriously, MNHQ.

Page after page after page after page of the same farking posts....if not for all the reasons above (all of which are bang on) for the simple reason that poor mobile site users will be killing their mb usage on having to load a bazzilion posts all saying the same thing. With a 'lol' or Grin at the end.

Please, don't do it! We like it simple. We're all clever enough to c+p or ctrl F if needed.

Tee2072 · 21/09/2011 07:48

Chaos if you ask for Hallowe'en smileys before the middle of October, we will have to have words!

No like button. No quotes.

But would lurve to be able to hide posters.

johnworf · 21/09/2011 08:12

It's a NO from me.

I'm out.....

CalatalieSisters · 21/09/2011 10:39

We should try and bump up the I Don't Really Care Party's support, so that it can intervene for fairness and working together and an end to the Punch and Judy politics of Yes versus No.

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/09/2011 11:15

We don't want any of that gray, compromising, liberal sort of talk here. It's a firm and definite fuck off to the Yes party!

SoupDragon · 21/09/2011 11:20

Has anyone asked what happens if everyone quotes a post that is subsequently deleted?

CalatalieSisters · 21/09/2011 11:25

Yes but the I Don't Really Care Party could smooth some of the rough ideological edges of the Yes Party, getting them to introduce Quote more gradually, with a smaller font, and kill fewer babies.

DottyDot · 21/09/2011 11:34

it's a no from me - I find the quoting thing really hard to read - would put me right off.

I dunno, Maryz, that's pretty much what happened in the last election! And this is so much more important!!!

sun1234 · 21/09/2011 12:13

For+++ it would save having to go back through threads trying to find out what someone is getting all het up about.

RedBlanket · 21/09/2011 16:46

I would like it, but thin you need way of editing the post you are quoting down so you are only highlighting the relevant bit.

ShowOfHands · 21/09/2011 17:20

I couldn't find a 'fuck no' option so went with just no.
