I have a request about Q&As, please

I totally missed the Q&A with Banks and Wag because I don't read pre-school education where the thread was posted about it.

Would it be possible to sticky all Q&A and webchat links into Active so even if a person doesn't read a particular topic they know about all upcoming events?

Thank you!

Bump.

They did sticky it!

I would like to know why 'preview message' has stopped working for me.

Tee2072 · 06/07/2011 16:51

They stickied it on Pre-School Education, a topic I have hidden.

I was hoping they could sticky them in a more general area!

Hello. We do sticky all Q&As to the top of Active Convos (as well as in their Topic) while we're collecting questions and then again when the answers come in. We also usually stick something about them (with a link) in the Mumsnet Latest box (in blue on the right).

Tee, have you got Stickies enabled in your Customise options?

silverfrog · 07/07/2011 11:31

maybe you need a Q&A topic?

if Tee has pre-school education hidden, then whether stickied in Active convos or not, it wouldn't show for her, surely?

I hadn't noticed before that Q&As were posted in respective topics, I htink I always assumed they were in webchats or similar.

Tee2072 · 07/07/2011 13:00

Assuming setting it to 'no' means they are enabled, then yes, they are enabled.

I have no memory of seeing the Q&A with Banks and Wag in Active though!

I can see the survey and bloggers network stickies in active at the moment, are there others?

I have to assume it was stickied in Active convos, as I don't usually ever look in 'preschool ed'.

AnnMumsnet · 07/07/2011 13:39

yes tee2072 there is a Product tests/feedback thread and a site stuff thread on sticky at the mo!

Tee2072 · 07/07/2011 13:58

I don't see either of those...Hmm what am I doing wrong?!?!

I don't actually see that topic in either my active or my inactive list! Lots of Products topics but none that say tests/feedback! Confused

And I do have pre-school ed hidden, that was why I was hoping stickying to active, if you can, could be done and I'd see it regardless of topic!

Oiy! Wink
But seriously don't hide product tests/feedback...it's a brilliant area! And surveys are great too...we need everyone to do the census!

Tee2072 · 07/07/2011 18:59

I did the census, honest!

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 07/07/2011 19:02

And I cannot find product tests/feedback in the include/exclude topics list under customize! It's not there!!!!

OP posts:
AnnMumsnet · 07/07/2011 19:14

it's under mumsnet stuff - before surveys and after mumsnet swops
can you see it?

Tee2072 · 07/07/2011 19:32

Found it! Man you guys hide things!

I don't mind unhiding that one because it could be interesting but I don't really want to unhide all the topics just so I can see Q&As! ::stamps feet:: Grin

OP posts:
AnnMumsnet · 07/07/2011 19:38

I know what you mean...anyway Rebecca and her team will discuss

HelenMumsnet · 08/07/2011 10:34

Hello again, Tee.

And Blush at me not reading properly and seeing that you hide Pre-school Education.

If you hide a topic, any threads created there won't appear in Active for you - even if we sticky them.

However, we nearly always put Q&As in the MN Latest box (to the right, in blue), so you could keep an eye on that instead. Also, we always mention ongoing Q&As in our Parenting News email every week - have you subscribed?

Tee2072 · 08/07/2011 12:04

Yes, I am subscribed to Parenting News. I guess I just missed this one and was wondering what other things I and others might be missing because of how your stickies work!

OP posts:
HelenMumsnet · 08/07/2011 15:41

So, would you prefer Stickies to over-ride Hide Topics, Tee?

ie if you hide, say, the Food topic but we sticky a Food discussion, you'd still want to see the stickied discussion?

Tee2072 · 08/07/2011 17:32

I was actually thinking about this further today.

I don't actually want to see all the stickies, just the ones about Q&As/Webchats.

So wouldn't it make more sense to have a topic for those two things rather than put them into various topics? IYSWIM? So a Q&A topic?

Or am I now just being extremely difficult? [hgrin]
