How to hide certain topics?

You can exclude topics on this page, which is linked to from the bottom of the Talk Customise page, should you need to find it again.

Hi, just letting you know that it's only available on the desktop version of the site. So you'll need to switch to that temporarily in order to change the setting.

But threads in the topic still appear in the 'trending now' box. I've just hidden the coronavirus topic but the 'worried about' thread is still visible. There isn't much point in hiding a topic if the threads still appear. Or am I getting this wrong??
