oh dear, bundle, have you hit the nail on the head?

PiccadillyCircus · 10/11/2005 16:59

I don't think I've done anything worthy of being blacklisted...

bundle · 10/11/2005 17:01

or blackballed???

anorak · 10/11/2005 17:04

I received a lovely mail from mn on my ds's 5th birthday with loads of information about what he should and shouldn't be able to do by then. It was written in a way that makes you feel all soppy about your baby . I loved it. Unexpected too.

I usually skim through the mn news and then delete it

PiccadillyCircus · 10/11/2005 17:13

My mumsnet mail just arrived .

Will read and enjoy

sunchowder · 10/11/2005 17:18

I have never gotten Mumsnet mail and I a gutted too....and Justine, how was your trip to Florida then? Didn't get a call from you, so figured you made out just fine. All was nice by the end of the week, was a bit nippy for Florida when you got here though.

I read them but could you put the news in brief in bullet points?
The paragraph style is rather offputting - just a big splodge of blurb on screen.

bundle · 10/11/2005 17:20

"..gotten and getten are both words from early British English. Shakespeare uses the word, as does Henry Fielding, Oscar Wilde and Walter Scott, and it is retained in the expression ill-gotten."

sunchowder · 10/11/2005 17:21

grrrrrr--I am a Colonial coddy, what can you expect???? I guess I should have said, "received" . Past part of get in American dictionary.....

sunchowder · 10/11/2005 17:21

thank you bundle, feel much better now....

JustineMumsnet · 10/11/2005 17:25

Do wish I'd been to Florida Sunchowder - but think you must mean Carrie - who had a fine time. Said she'd had worse weather in Blackpool.

It turns out we have had a wee problem with sending out round-ups to those who opted out at first and then opted in (something to do with His Techliness's fat fingers). So sorry about that. This should be fixed now.
And thank you so much to COD for bringing the whole subject up and thereby highlighting the problem... see there's always a silver lining .

sunchowder · 10/11/2005 17:27

Opps sorry Justine! It was Carrie then, sorry to confuse you. Thanks for getting me out on your list though--can't wait. Us Colonials, we like to be educated by our forefathers....

Hello my little chou-fleurs (sp?),

This is my fault (in as much as one ever accepts blame for anything). If, when you sign up to mumsnet or later, you tick the box to not get any email, the newsletter is blocked. If you later change your mind and un-tick the box, the block is never removed. I've fixed this now and the server is just transmitting a bunch of emails so you should get one in the next hour or so if you think you should be getting one and didn't get one overnight.

Other reasons you might not get it:

  1. We've had mail bounced from your address before. When this happens the server flags your address as "bad" and won't try again. you can see this on the member profile (comes up in red).
  2. Your ISP bounces our email as suspected spam.
  3. You registered from a company email and your company rejects the message as spam / having suspect content - this happens surprisingly frequently due to presence of words like "breast", which are used innocently, but don't often appear in business emails.
  4. You use AOL for email - AOL seems to bounce mail because it feels like it.
tech · 10/11/2005 18:46

OK, so who did/didn't get one? You wouldn't have got another if you got one last night, only if you are one of the inadvertently blocked people.

thanks,
Tech

JoolsToo · 10/11/2005 18:51

thankyou! mine has arrived

Janh · 10/11/2005 19:28

I never didn't want one IYSWIM - I always used to get 1, in fact I always got 2 because I have a hotmail address and an aol address registered, and then they just stopped. I haven't got one (or two) now either, tech, and I promise I never blocked you.
