Because it's still broken, and my thread has been ignored for weeks now.

HelenMumsnet · 13/05/2011 09:46

Hello. What bold/italics thread?

Sorry, BertieBotts - are you saying bold and italics are broken for you?

tests tests

HelenMumsnet · 13/05/2011 10:32

Bertie, the Tech team tell me they're on the case...

BertieBotts · 13/05/2011 13:34

Oh sorry, totally forgot to link it! This one.

Yes - I've asked a few times too - but it does seem to be being ignored.

Helen - they've been saying that for ages!

AdamTech · 13/05/2011 15:27

I've posted. :)

nickelbabe · 13/05/2011 15:32

(i'm bolding a phrase within brackets. With punctuation)

now with italics.
(and italics within brackets with more than one italicised)

nickelbabe · 13/05/2011 15:32

doesn't like the bracket, but it's okay with the full-stop.

missjulie · 13/05/2011 18:59

Am off to have a look!

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 11:00

Thanks Adam :)

Does multiple bolded words in one sentence now work correctly?

Tee2072 · 14/05/2011 11:44

Yup!

onagar · 14/05/2011 12:06

It seems it will only work if one or more of the asterisks is at the start/end of a word with a space/newline next to it.

protest Works because it has a space/newline at the end
testate Works because it has a space/newline at the the start
detestable. Doesn't work because no spaces at either end.

This also prevents the use of both italic and bold together.

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 23:59

I accidentally did bold and italic together once!

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 23:59

See I did it again Grin

Ah but not with the * next to the ^ :o

Mary had a little lamb won't work.

but Mary had a little lamb will.

Foxinthewoods · 15/05/2011 19:26

My head hurts!

BertieBotts · 15/05/2011 19:28

But how about little lamb?

OP posts:
onagar · 15/05/2011 19:44

You think this is bad? I'm the guy who has to make it work on a forum where you can have bold, italic, color, size, underlined, quoted, 5 kinds of font and 3 kinds of justification. :o

Okay, people mostly only use one at a time, but it has to work if someone does this:

[align=center][font=courier][size=20]mary [i]had[/i] a [b][u]little[/u][/b] [color=royalblue]lamb[/color][/size]
[/font][/align]

BertieBotts · 15/05/2011 19:54

Isn't that just BBcode though? So it already exists!

OP posts:
GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 15/05/2011 19:57

I think this thread just melted my head Confused Grin

onagar · 16/05/2011 11:12

Yeah essentially BBcode. In my case adapted a bit. Maybe MN should just get that instead of writing their own from scratch. They could leave out all the fancy stuff.
