MNHQ - can we have a couple of 'stickies' please?

Re Doghouse topic - often people come onto the forum asking the same questions on matters which are in need of standard answers. Over the years during which I've been an MN member I and others like me have repeated advice time and again to newcomers and novice dog owners. Examples of this are what to look for in a responsible dog rescue when thinking of adopting a pet and what to do if a member finds a stray.

Please would it be possible for us to have a couple of "Stickies" so that this advice can be easily accessed in order that incorrect and potentially damaging information isn't inadvertantly offered and so that those with basic questions aren't ignored or lost in MNs fast-moving forums?

I don't profess to be an expert nor am I asking to be allowed to have free reign or sole right to write those Stickies but as a rescuer with a fair bit of experience I feel that I could help, along with many others on the Doghouse, to provide accurate, helpful information. It wouldn't only save our aching hands from typing the same things out week in week out and boring other users but would also be helpful in allowing those with standard queries to quickly obtain solid advice (and sometimes the legal position on dog welfare/strays/dog warden responsibilities and limits etc) when those of us who know how to guide other users aren't online.

Thank you for your consideration,

Val

Hi Val, thanks for the suggestion. What do other people think? Good idea?

PuzzleRocks · 25/04/2011 15:19

Excellent idea. It gets my vote.

DooinMeCleanin · 25/04/2011 15:21

Another vote from me too. Also would be good to have one on what to expect when you get a dog/cat for the first time, to try and avoid the "I must rehome my dog. I did not realise he would need walking in the rain" type threads.

Excellent idea!!

I would let Vallhala lose with the sticky threads ... if you could restrict them to the Doghouse - she might get above her station if you let her loose on the whole of MN [bugrin]

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 25/04/2011 15:22

Actually MNHQ while you're about it... [bugrin]

Is there anyway we can have our own sticky's on our 'Threads I'm On' page??

Is it possible to have several classes of stickies?

General stickies, which stay at the top of Actuve Convos.
Topic-specific stickies, which stay at the top of their topic.
Poster-specific stickies, which are set by the individual poster, and are only effective in their Threads I'm On.

Because otherwise, while I'm sure Valhalla's concerns are very important to dog-owners, they are not widely relevant to the rest of Mumsnet, they would be the thin end of the wedge, and TBH I would not want several topic-specific stickies cluttering up Active Convos every time I looked.

Alternatively, perhaps things like Valhalla's concerns could be a "Please read this first FAQ in the Doghouse page header.

"I would not want several topic-specific stickies cluttering up Active Convos"

I don't think there was any suggestion of such a stickie being shown in Active Conversations, but in V's case, would show up only in Doghouse (where they would be useful for anyone visiting that topic).

I think she was only hinting at topic-specific stickies (because of regularly seeing similar posts and repeating the same advice, which could be easily sorted with a stickie to stop reinventing the wheel !)
