Please could we have a Fly Lady topic...

... in Good Housekeeping. Lots of us are following the Fly Lady programme and the Fly Lady threads are very popular. We feel it deserves to be a topic all of its own.

Thanks.

Seconded!

Thirded!

Hello. Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else agree?

GoneHopefullyForgotten · 10/03/2011 22:44

NO disagree.

C&Ped from other thread.

Just one thing. fly isnt the only group of house type methods. You also have the slatterns. there might be a revolute amongst the slatterns who are full of perseonality and attitude.

Personally i like the fly threads and the fact that there are several going. However, there has recently been a mergence of two threads including a large number explosion of newbies to mn in the last few months. Combined with the normal random feelings to spring clean this time of the year means that some threads have out grown what they originally were.

The problem with daily threads rather then monthly threads is that you dont fill the thread space which is increadibly wasteful and it is nice to be able to scroll through the month and see where you have had good days and bad days.

I think that the existing system actually works really well and that housekeeping is a good place to leave the threads.

Did you know that there is an ebay and a facebook topic? Can never bloody find the things when looking for them either.

IMO there is no need to shove this into the corner far away. So many have fallen into this simply because they were searching for an answer or inspiration in housekeeping.

Carrotsandcelery · 10/03/2011 22:48

I assumed we would keep our threads with our fellow threaders in housekeeping. You get comfortable in your own little space. I thought it meant that we could also all share a flylady thread/space.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 10/03/2011 22:48

AGree with GoneHopefully - don't know why the FLY threads need a whole topic of their own Confused

I feel at this point I should state my position as founder (extremely inadvertently! of the Slatterns).

Often what I see on Good Housekeeping is a thread that goes something like this

"OMG help my house is falling to pieces how do you keep yours in order"

They'll get 3 types of responses/suggestions

  1. Ideas within that thread about how to do it
  2. An invitation to come and join the FLY threads
  3. An invitation to go and join the Slattern Threads

Works just fine as it is right now

evening baroque!

Grin 'ello GoneHopefully

I just think it's a bit daft to have a seperate topic for FLYers.

In my mind there are 3 types of housekeepers

  1. Those who need/like a set routine (the FLYers)
  2. Those who prefer lists and the like (the slatterns)
  3. The annoying and smug naturally tidy and organised who don't need any systems of any description.

And they all belong in Good Housekeeping.

PositiveAttitude · 11/03/2011 07:14

Agree Baroque Smile

Am happy just as it is, thank you. Why change it??

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/03/2011 07:53

No, please leave it where it is, otherwise new people won't find it. I had never heard of Flylady before I came on MN and would have been very unlikely to click on a Flylady topic not knowing what it was. I've been one one of these threads for 18 months now and it keeps it fresh having new people pop in and out all the time.

NettieSpaghetti · 11/03/2011 07:54

Totally agree with the founder of slatterns baroque and pa and gone

i think if flying moves to one on its own we will not get many new people, especially if they dont know about the fly system in the first place.

thanks {grin]

Bumperlicious · 11/03/2011 08:01

what would the benefit be?

ForkfulOfTabouleh · 11/03/2011 08:03

Really sticking my nose in here as I've not posted on MN Flylady threads!

But.... I am a longstanding die hard Flylady fan and often listen to her radioshow. I seem to remember that setting up groups using her name is breech of copyright. Now I am sure that the current threads in GH are no problem but a separate section would not be on.

GoneHopefullyForgotten · 11/03/2011 12:01

Thank you FOrk. I had been trying to be open minded about this ovennight and was coming to the same opinion. the only thing we could put in the topic would be threads of the same nature as what we have already. Threads of lists, or threads of lists and chat depending on the group. we can only link to the steps. There is no value in changing it for doing nothing more then what we are already doing. Putting anything else in the topic would open HQ up to being sued.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 11/03/2011 12:13

Fork - think you could be right there actually just looked at the T&C's on the Flylady website

\link{http://www.flylady.net/pages/Terms.asp\think that's pretty much what it says in no.1 isn't it?}

bessie26 · 12/03/2011 13:49

Like carrots I had assumed we would still keep our separate threads, but just have another place where all the FLYers could congregate & discuss important matters such as getting dressed to shoes?

Perhaps we just need an "all FLYers" thread in Good Housekeeping for this rather than a separate section?

GoneHopefullyForgotten · 12/03/2011 14:26

but Bessie discussions like that would be a very grey area and could open up mn to being sued. Especially as there is a facility iirc to have this sort of discussion on the fly site itself.

PlentyOfPrimroses · 12/03/2011 20:35

I think a separate section would be a good idea. I dropped out of a thread late last year because it got too big for me to follow - I'd get on much better with daily threads. People could still do long threads if that's what suits them (or they're worried about wasting space on the thread by not using it up Grin). It would also be good to have a space to discuss meta-flying issues such as the wearing of shoes and the minutiae of the control journal. I can't see anything in the ToU that would prohibit this type of discussion, as long as we don't C&P stuff from the site. MNHQ could perhaps email her if in doubt?
